For a while I've been eyeing the short series/movie: Macross Plus. Be it from AMVs and manga's website, my interest is drawn to this one particualr piece of Robotech that looks to be phenomenal. So my question to those that have seen it: which do I get? The movie edition or the OVA edition. From what I can tell, it appears the movie is more complete or an alternate ending, or something like that. Any helpful hints?

i saw the ova edition a few years ago and was blown away with how great it was...awesome story, beautiful visuals, a yoko kanno soundtrack (another quality music score), and some great voice acting for the dub side of things...

i haven't been able to see the movie version yet...i know the movie was supposed to implement a few minutes of new footage, but i've also heard that there's no dub for the movie edition (if that even matters to you)...

you may want to just wait another month or two, as i think they're releasing both versions in a box set sometime soon, but without having seen the movie, i can't really help you pick one over the other...

Yeah, the OVA's(even though I was only able to see the subtitled version) were awesome. As for the movie version, you'd probably be better off reading a review for it at www.animeondvd.com. From what I recall, the reviewer preferred the OVA's over the movie. In fact, here's the link: http://www.animeondvd.com/reviews2/disc_reviews/795.php

Thanks Gundam0084. After reading that review, the OVAs are the clear choice, even at twice the price.

But from what everyone else is saying, they cut out twice as many. And the scenes brought in to fill the holes are rushed.

Buy the OVA, but see the movie at some point if you can. Some of the re-done scenes are well worth your time.

You could always buy both, I guess. I hear Manga is releasing a Macross Plus box set(with both OVA's and movie) in the near future. It'll probably be around $70.00, though.

But it's not the Macross Plus movie in the boxset, it's "Macross II".
