Post subject: Bad cosplay vs Good cosplay
|
|
|

Would you agree with the statement there is more bad cosplay than good cosplay? A lot of the pictures I've seen are scary, or maybe I looked at the wrong type of pictures...
There's no doubt that a lot of hard work went into the costumes but sometimes the end result just looks far scarier...
I have a lot of respect for cosplayers spending so much time and enjoying what they do but some of the pictures scare me 0_0 _________________ rednekbob9: 1: You're Female

I completely agree. I think a lot of people miss the first step to having a good cosplay: body type. If your body is wrong, then no amount of clothing will make it look right.
One of the best cosplay I saw at ACen was Kaede from Inuyasha. It wasn't elaborate, it wasn't pretty, but it was accurate. This woman chose the perfect character to cosplay, and really looked the part. _________________ Krogoth uses Berserk.

Hmm I wonder if we saw the same person, because there was a great Kaede at Jacon last year who fits your description.
Anyway I used to think there was bad cosplay, but in truth it doesn't matter. Many of these people I know don't give a crap about their body type, and among cosplayers it's an unwritten law not to criticize others based on that. Some of these people have very low self-confidence or worth, but in cosplay they can feel confident and actually get praise on their looks. Much of the really bad cosplay is done in jest. The purpose of their costumes is to look scary. Not to mention that our culture is obsessed with physical perfection, and we're not used to seeing real, everyday people. I'll admit though it's not as if I actively seek"unatractive" cosplayers, quite the opposite, I just dont get bothered by it. In truth the only BAD cosplay is furry cosplay...those people should just be burned alive inside those suits. And Dill, Bristish cosplay is teh suck.
I've been pimpin' this site for a while, but I feel it must be done again. RisingSun.net has some of the best cosplay photos anywhere, and they're almost all from my county or central florida. The people you will find most often on this site are pretty good looking by normal standards, and some of the girls are pretty hot.
Heck, even I'm in there. _________________ Bang. |

Considering the fact there are only like...1 or 2 major conventions in Britain which are only like...probably half the size or a third of the size of American conventions I would say that we have the RIGHT to have bad cosplay
We haven't developed our cosplay iundustry yet! Besides...wait till you see mine...*not that it's actually started developement yet and not that I actually go to conventions*

There is good Cosplay......? Interesting thought....
Really though, not to offend anyone who does it, but it freaks me out in an unhappening kind of way. |

Is that a slam on my intent to cosplay as one of the Sailor Starlights? _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

I was at Anime Mid-Atlantic this weekend and there were some pretty good costumes. At the contest, one group dressed up as the entire cast of "Fruit Baskets". The best costumes were a beserker Paine who was incredibly detailed, a Seiya, and some guy dressed up as Dejiko. One of the hosts to the contest had a great Jack Sparrow outfit, which the audience responed with shouts of "Take it off!", "I want your baby!", near the end some girl dragged him off stage and out of the room. |

I've seen some good cosplay, but most of them were models.... and most of the pics can't be shown here :p _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." - Calvin
