I think the current's 1GHz.
...and our server before this one was just a lil' 400MHz K6.
We need throughput a lot more than we need processing power. _________________ My old sig was too long. |

~1250KBps should handle things, figure 20 people d/ling files at the same time at 50-60kbps _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. Ugh! I like the current setup with my downloading at greater than 6000K/sec. |

*rolls eyes*
it lies
that would be 48Mbps, I doubt the old service got that, it was prolly buffered somewhere and you got that from the buffer, or the d/ler lied, which has been known to happen.
and yes it means unlimited d/ling, you could d/l everything delete it, and then just for kicks download it again. and repeat that as much as you like. _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. Here's our bandwidth graphs:
http://bandwidth.ev1servers.net/RSbw4.cgi?cfg=127_64.cfg&log=216.127.64.247_19
We almost never hit 10Mbit/sec. Not even as a spike.
Bandwidth would be "sort of unlimited".
Theoretically, our "limit" if we completely maxed out our pipe 24/7 would be over 3TB/month.
An upgrade to 20mbit/sec costs $190 a month. Ads don't bring in anything near that. Not even with the TDA Download page banners. (Although I'll have good news/a poll soon.) I think unmetered 10Mbit will be good enough for our growth for a long time.
The server's been purchased, and I'm waiting for it to be set up and Zogg and I given the "keys". This will be a fun transition month. _________________ My old sig was too long. |

Nope, thats what I got. It was when the DNS thing was going on an you could only download from the site if you knew the IP. I did random files and each peaked at near or over 6000 K/sec. No download accelerators or files resuming from cache. |

If you want to get download speeds like that again, you'll have to poison our DNS so that nobody else can get to TDA without the IP.
...and you better do it within the next week or two. _________________ My old sig was too long. |

I'm working on it. But other than that one time, I still hit downloads of about 1000 K/sec or faster during normal hours. Boy, FDD must be jealous. |

Ooh! Does this mean we can have a TDA radio now? Bono wants to DJ. We could even webcast a few shows! _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

I have visions of the "Ice Cream Manifesto" being broadcast worldwide.
Except it wouldn't be about ice cream. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis
