Impact Pictures has acquired film adaption rights to the Temco video game DEAD OR ALIVE. The story will center on four female characters from the game invited to fight in a tournament. "The four voluptuous girls in the movie are invited by Fame Douglas to partake in the DEAD OR ALIVE world fighting tournament on an exotic island," producer Jeremy Bolt said. "Like we did with RESIDENT EVIL we will remain faithful to the essence of the game franchise but create an original story that will play to a broader audience." Impact also acquired rights to Temco's DEAD OR ALIVE XTREME BEACH VOLLEYBALL. And so, there will be a scene of the four "babes in bikinis" playing volleyball. A $30 million budget has been set. The film should open fall 2004, coinciding with the release of DEAD OR ALIVE 4.

Concerning the Punisher. They have a chance to make amends for Dulphs version. I was talking to one of the guys at work today about it. The original wasnt to bad. It needed a new director, new set, new script, but Dolph Lungren was good for the part.

Driving cars off of bridges and parasailing on weapons of mass destruction just aren't exciting enough for Vin Diesel. The actor revealed to The National Post that he'd also like to surf in space.

While fans have been puzzling over which superhero the muscled thespian would be perfect for, it seems Diesel aspires to none other than Marvel's "Silver Surfer."

The actor said that he sees his own multi-ethnic reflection in the Surfer's shiny skin. "The Surfer is an intergalactic superhero," Diesel told The Post. He also views the character as being "one step further than all these regional superheroes."

At this point, however, such talk is just the actor's musings. "Silver Surfer" has long been in development with Twentieth Century Fox, who picked it up as part of a package deal with "The Fantastic Four." At one point Andrew Kevin Walker ("Seven") had written a script for it.

However, the most recent status is that they appear to be starting over. In a February interview, Marvel chief Avi Arad said the project was in the early stages and had no writer. Marvel did list it in recent earnings report as being in development.

Playing big screen heroes is just part of the game plan for Vin Diesel, who has exploded into stardom in the past few years. The actor will reprise his role as the Riddick in a "Pitch Black" sequel. Aside from the Surfer, he also hopes to play Hannibal, the Carthaginian general in a period film, star in a remake of "Guys & Dolls" and do a romantic comedy as well.

Mark Steven Johnson (DAREDEVIL) has agreed to rewrite and direct a film adaption of Marvel Comics' GHOST RIDER, starring Nicolas Cage. Columbia is producing the film, which will see Cage playing Johnny Blaze, a former motorcycle stuntman that agrees to become the physical host for an avenging demon in exchange for the safety of his girlfriend. The result is that at night Blaze becomes Ghost Rider, a motorcycle-riding demon with a flaming skull that avenges evil. "We worked with Mark on DAREDEVIL which grossed over $100 million (domestically)," said Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad, who will serve as a producer. "Mark has been a pleasure and inspiration. We trust him with our material, and it's a delight to keep him within our universe."

I actually think Diesel would make a good Silver Surfer. He's got the right head shape. That's just my opinion, but I think he could pull it off pretty well.

I totally agree with you he at the very least looks the part.

Anyway, onto news.

It has been a long time coming but it looks like Ghost Rider is finally coming to fruition. After Steven Norrington stepped out and both Guillermo Del Toro and Tarsem were connected and subsequently ruled out as possible directors, Daredevil helmer, Mark Steven Johnson has accepted the challenge of transferring the flaming vigilante to the screen.

Bringing out the darker side of Daredevil, Johnson would seem well qualified for the adaptation of what is far from one of Marvel’s more light and airy properties. The story centres around Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who sells his soul to the devil in order to save a loved one's life and subsequently finds a demon sharing his body.

Exclusively talking to Empire, Mark Steven Johnson gave his reasons for taking on Marvel's latest. "The Ghost Rider is one of the great icons in comics," he said. "It's that classic Devil and Daniel Webster story. A Faustian bargain that change's Johnny's life."

Nicolas Cage is still slated to take up chain and biker jacket as the man himself, prowling America's highways ready to turn his penance stare upon unwary villains while Johnson goes back to the drawing board to begin a new draft of the screenplay. " The studio wants me to write my own version of Ghost Rider. I want to go back to the source material and use more of the comic. I'm just sitting down to write now. This project has been close to going before. Hopefully it's not cursed! I'm hoping that we could be shooting next winter."

James Cameron, who directed Aliens, held out the possibility of helming another installment of the popular SF franchise in an interview with the Canadian Edmonton Sun newspaper. Cameron told the paper that it would have to be truly scary and likely an R-rated film.

The 1979 original Alien, directed by Ridley Scott, "holds a special classic niche as one of the great terrifying experiences," Cameron said. "And the trick [to making a new Alien film] is you don't go crazy and make a $150-million movie, because you don't want to have to compromise. You don't want to try to do a PG-13 Alien that is all things to everyone."

Cameron added, "It's got to still maintain its roots in this kind of cinematic id. Ridley did it really beautifully. He just kind of put you into this Freudian nightmare space."

Yeah, his comic collection WAS quite supreme. He owned Action Comics #1 and other super rare and expensive ones too. I say was because he auctioned off most if not all of them for some worthy cause at a comic convention. That really was kind of cool. If I were him I would demand to be in a comic book movie-- especially right now in the new age of comic book movies were they are actually taken seriously, at least the marvel ones anyway.

Daytime TV to Get First Lesbian Kiss (WOOHOO!)

Daytime television viewers -- considered to be among America's most conservative audiences -- will see their first on-screen lesbian kiss next week, ABC television said on Monday.

Wait a minute. Let's backtrack a bit.

ABC? ABC?!?

Yeah, that's right. ABC. And who's the big boss behind ABC? Disney! That's right, the family-friendly "we would never do anything to offend the sensitive audiences" company is gonna show a lesbian kiss on TV! And it's not during primetime or super-late-night, when all the kiddies are asleep. It's gonna be during the daytime! And when you thought Toonami and Adult Swim were risky...

The kiss will take place during the April 22 (and that's a SUNDAY, not a weekday when children are at school!) episode of the Emmy-award winning soap opera All My Children, making what ABC said would be a first in the world of daytime television.

It comes in a scene featuring gay teen character Bianca Montgomery, who came out as a lesbian in 2000, and her new friend Lena (Olga Sosnovska) who "in a moment of truth and true love comes to terms with her feelings."

All My Children has tackled a number of controversial topics during its 33 years on the air including AIDS, abortion, drug abuse, racial bias, and teenage alcoholism.

"The theme of All My Children from the beginning is the belief that, as God's children, we are all bound to each other by our common humanity despite our many personal differences; that it is our failure to understand and respect those differences that causes most of life's pain and suffering," said the show's creator, Agnes Nixon, in a statement.

"The Bianca story is our latest effort to dramatize that belief," she added.

Here's a pic of what we will be seeing (if you plan on watching it, that is):

You really don't know disney so well. I'm not saying your incredibly wrong but Disney actually does try to push things here and there. While ABC is owned by Disney it is not persay run by disney. Disney's int he market of entertainment not not offending people -- they just don't like to do it under the disney name itself. it's the disney name they protect with a vengence not abc.

I can see where you're getting at, but don't you think it's totally ironic that the first channel to break this barrier would be a Disney-owned network? I mean, wouldn't you expect a less kid-oriented company to do it first, like AOL Time Warner (TBS Superstation, The WB, etc.), Viacom (The New TNN, Comedy Central), or News Corp. (Fox)?
