Hey folks, don't want stupid n00bs clogging up the forums with inane topics? I submit the idea that we set a trial time of either a week or fifty posts before a person may post a topic. Just an idea.

I had thought about that, but what about those newbies that AREN"T annoying as hell and who DON"T want to stick around a long time but just want to ask a question? It happens every now and then, and I don't think we should punish the innocent for the annoyances from the ignorant.

Why use passive discouragement when we could be more proactive about it? Flaming usually works, particularly when it comes from a mod, and if that doesn't help, the BanHammer (mmm, interCapping) performs wonderful exorcisms.

Actually, flaming from mods usually DOENS'T help. Not as much as it should, at least. Although, I don't typically 'flame' so much as point out what they're doing wrong and try to correct them in a nice, encouraging way. Sadly, they NEVER LISTEN which PISSES THE HELL out of me. I try to help them so that people like them, and they don't listen to me. And it's not like I ever ask them to do anything that is that hard either . . .
Why are people NOT logical? We pride ourselves on being the 'smartest creatures on the planet' yet we're all dumb. Go fig.

Why discourage newbies? We're not all evil are we? If you dont look a topic. Don't read it. Move onto one that interests you.
Newbies are the lifeblood of a forum. They keep things from getting stale. I know some are annoying but so are some long time posters. |

Take the good, ignore the bad. They will either shape up or get bored with their topics getting locked and move on.
After all, we've managed to salvage the "Democracy or Communist" thread into something far more interesting than when it first started. It ranks up there with the legendary peanut butter-->quantum physics thread drift, IMHO.

Newbies don't annoy me, n00bs do. And up until about when you came, Fodder, we had a period of about 6 months where all we got were n00bs. After the 7th n00b posts a "OMGDBZ IZ TEH COOLEZT!!!1111" thread with the body of hte first post consisting solely of the word "hi", you start to get pissy.
Oh, and Nobu, you are quite right about tte Communist thread.
