Financially troubled developer Sega, home to Sonic and creator of numerous game series and consoles, will be merging this October with Sammy. While best known for pachinko machines in Japan, Sammy is also a game developer, most notably of the Guilty Gear series.

Sega has a market value nearly 20% higher than Sammy, but is saddled with a whopping 83.6 billion yen in debt. Sammy's current market value is 132 billion yen ($1.1 billion US), but the company has virtually no debt to speak of.

While details have yet to be worked out, Sega and Sammy will be forming a committee of members from both companies to decide things such as the new company's name, executive positions (including a role for embattled Sega president Hideki Sato), as well as the physical headquarters of the new partnership.

"Sega's brand name is recognized worldwide, and it would be a shame to discard it," said Sammy president Hajime Satori. Sammy will retain all of Sega's beloved properties, as well as the Sega name brand on all subsequent Sega games.

The merger is set to finalize on October 1, 2003.

In other words. Sammy is buying Sega.

Sammy doesn't develop Guilty Gear, they publish it. That is why Bizzard tried to sue New Line for the new movie, A Man Apart. Okay, so it wasn't, but more people are sueing the gaming industry or vise versa.

McDonald's and SEGA have entered into an agreement that will allow McDonald's to offer SEGA themed happy meal toys. Neat!

Due in stores this summer, the toys will feature characters from both Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball.

"Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball are two of SEGA's most popular video game franchises," said Mike Fischer, SEGA of America's vice president of marketing "SEGA's affiliation with McDonald's affords us the opportunity to generate increased exposure for these properties among a growing universe of gamers."

The folks at McDonald's also put down their Big Macs long enough to express their delight at the deal

"We believe consumers will have a great reaction to the innovative Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball premiums found only in McDonald's Happy Meals this summer," said I mean Karlin Linhardt, senior director of U.S. marketing for the company, "SEGA's properties are extremely popular and we look forward to bringing them to McDonald's consumers through this unique happy meal offering."

So, basically, Xbox conned it's way ahead by putting out the one thing that people most use their PCs for: soft core porn.

Although what really bugs me is all the nay sayers regarding the Wind Waker. I'm only one of 2 people I know that thinks it looks good. I'm the only person I know who's actually played a demo of it. Go fig.

doaxbv is actually REALLY fun to play. it's just a bonus they happen to be scantily clad were well modelled/textured visually pleasing polygon clusters.

and who's been naysaying windsomethingorother? I think it looks like it will be much better than any zelda game to be released for a long time. It sure as shit won't get me to buy a GC, seeing as how I've always disliked the zelda series, but it still looks pretty well done.

Anyone owning both MechAssault and Xbox Live is most likely aware of the fact that the new downloadable content is going to be unleashed tomorrow. However, what those very same fans might not know is that there will soon be a MechAssault developer chat with Day 1 Studios. Revealed through a quick stop by the official Xbox chat, where a banner baring the name “MechAssault Developer Chat: Day 1 Studios” is shown, the chat will be with TJ Wagner, Producer, and Mike McDonald, Lead Programmer.

The date and time of the chat has yet-to-be announced.

Just a few minutes ago, Ubi Soft sent us over official word on the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Xbox Live downloadable content. First revealed at the developer chat sometime ago, Ubi Soft stated today that the new mission, called “Kola Cell”, will be available for downloading via Xbox Live on March 14th.

"Ubi Soft thanks Tom Clancy Splinter Cell fans for their continued support by providing a free downloadable mission that is just as exciting and intense as the original game," said Tony Kee, vice president of Marketing for Ubi Soft Entertainment. "We are psyched that Xbox Live allows us to bring our best content directly to our fans."

"We're pleased to deliver this extra level of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell through our Xbox Live service," said David Hufford, Xbox marketing manager. "Xbox gamers dug the original game so much that they are fiending for new content that will extend the life of the game, adding hours of intense stealth-action Sam Fisher style! It's an excellent example of what Xbox Live gamers expect from many of the hottest games on Xbox."

I have played alittle of a demo at bestbuy. I Liked it but I'm not going to buy it. I'll just end up borrowing it from my friend. And I have yet to play doaxbv... I haven't been over my friends house yet...I want to see for myself how it is.

I was going to play a demo of it, but we didn't go to the store with my parents. I, however got the bonus disk and I'm in the fire temple on Master Quest Very Happy . Needless to say, I preordered it, and I'm getting the game. It's going to kick heiny. I have to say though, for a while I thought it was the stupidest thing Nntendo had ever done (I'm talking about the cell shading, btw), but now I'm lovin' it! I was hoping for a playable demo on the bonus disk because they said they had previews of upcomming games, but it's just a short movie...

I still don't understand people disliking of the change to a celshaded link. The only games that were "realistic" were the n64 games and even in my mind they blew compared to the older 2d cartoony zelda games (yes, I played the zelda series, well on the systems I had which were the NES and my brothers n64). Ocarina was so incredibly not a zelda game and considering majora's mask was the same damn thing but with a time limit it was even worse.

I think a lot of peoples' first exposure to Zelda was OoT (including mine), so, they thought the series should stay like that. I still think OoT is totally awesome though. And I really don't think they 'blew'.
