Post subject: Saddam is caught!

At around six am Eastern Time General Sanchez and Paul Bremer announced that they had caught Saddam Hussein the previous day. He had been hiding in a basement of an abandoned building and when he was captured he seemed to collapse into resignation. He is described as being in poor health and in coalition hands. There is no word yet if this has provoked more attacks on American soldiers, but now that people can see that he isn’t coming back hopefully the rebel attacks will start to drop. honestly, the first thing that came to my mind after hearing this news was, "looks like bush just got his second term..."
mr. bush is set to talk about it at noon eastern time...who woulda thought after all this speculation about saddam leaving the country, he'd be right there?

Holy POO! and I thought this was going to be some fruitless quest that drove us into a neverending military occupation and that his whereabouts would be forever be a mytery as Hitler and Jimmy Hoffa! Yay, our military actually accomplished something!
Oh and JJ, you're totally right, Bush's media machine will be shoving this in the democrats' faces till Nov14th and beyond. Still without a single strong candidate Bush, unless he screws up again, is going to one up his father.

They’ve confirmed it with dental records and DNA tests. So unless Iraq had perfected cloning technology before the war…

One thing I've always wondered...
...where the HELL do they get dental records and DNA samples of these reclusive and/or terroristic/tyrantical/evil people?!?!?

This really changes nothing. Except Bush's popularity. With Saddam out of power, he wasn't DOING anything to anyone. Meaning that the damage was done. Meaning that by capturing him, we are not stopping tyranny, it's already been stopped. Meaning this is not a victory. It is a photo op. One Bush will pimp till he's 105 years old. I bet he called up his dad and said "Hey, daddy! Guess what! I caught the rapscallion that you couldn't! I beat you dad! Just like the time I first beat you in checkers on my 25th birthday!"
I am in a super-cynical mood. Anyone mind?

So, they FINALLY caught Saddam.
I'm surprised that people think that this will cause another 4 years of Bush's ineptness and idiocy. A president's role is to fulfill his mission, and he already accomplished his mission, so there's no more need for him to be in the White House. He could try for reelection, but I doubt the people will really vote for him anyway. |
