Post subject: Anime movies on Turner Classic Movies?!?!?
|
|
|
|
I know this sort of stuff usually belongs in the Animation News thread, but this was so out-of-the-blue that I couldn't resist giving it it's own thread.
Philip I. Kent's animation revolution on Turner Broadcasting continues. He's bringing ANIME to TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES! Now doesn't that strike you as odd? I mean, I can see how it fits on the network age-wise (the movie is 42 years old, after all), but shouldn't this stuff go to Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater or something like that?
Anyway, the movie is called Magic Boy. It's the very first anime movie to be released in the U.S. and is very rarely seen. It airs this Monday morning at 8:30AM EST/5:30AM PST.
I got this news from Cartoon Research. _________________ Toonami visual schedule - UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2015 |

Well this is a surprise. Don't know anything about this movie.
This sorta reminds me of the time when the History Channel showed Grave of The Fireflies. _________________ Bang. |

They made the mistake of double featuring Grave with Totoro bac when it was released, and people who had just seen Totoro just left. (funny tidbit on the DVD extras)
That being sad, a viewing of Grave is just what the doctor ordered if you think you're too cheery.

Actually its not so odd with TCM. They have been showing a lot more modern movies. And really stretching the idea of classics. Im a fan of Hot Shots just like anyone else. But i was more then a little suprised to see it on TCM. I expect more war movies and truly classics. But times have changed and their changing their focus i guess. |

I think that they SHOULD show more anime on TCM. Or how about a Classic Anime Week? They had an Oscar Movie Month. Since anime started out about 25 years ago, and movies started getting Oscars almost 80 years ago, I think a week would be enough to show all the classic anime without annoying continuous reruns.
They should show normal anime during the day, and X-rated anime at night , just like they do on CN with Adult Swim. But anime on Adult Swim is not X rated. |

alright i don't think that X rated- thing is gonna work out.
I WAS surprised to see the South Park Movie COMPLETELY UNCUT on comedy central the other night. it had a TV-MA rating with basicaly all of the sub-warnings ALSV (Adult Language, Sex, Violence). But they said anything and everything and didn't cut out a single solitary bit of it.

I think they uddered the F word more, in that one showing, than all the times it had ever been said in cable . _________________ Bang. |

They better do that. Right now TCM is nothing but a channel full of movies that are from the 30's -60's. |
