Wow. I'm pretty surprised CN ended Toonami so abruptly. I figured One Piece would've given it a nice jolt(like DBZ did back in the day), but I guess the ratings didn't cut it. It's probably better that they put it to rest with the weak lineup it's had lately. Naruto was OK, but they lost all the shows that made it good in the first place(Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo!, Kenshin, etc...). There's always Adult Swim(and their red eye early morning anime club), I guess. It was fun while it lasted.

It's hard not to get a little emotional about this, but I'll be honest when I say I haven't been able to enjoy Toonami in recent history as much as I did years ago, before I even joined this forum.

A piece of my... well, not childhood, but young-adulthood at least... has been taken away. I can't say I blame Cartoon Network, either, since Toonami has been going on a downward slide ever since its glory days, but I still have very fond memories of this particular programming block. I still remember discovering Toonami when I was in highschool, being excited that the network was showing Thundercats and Voltron, two of my favorite shows when I was a wee tyke. I remember thinking how extraordinary it was that American TV had finally gotten itself some balls when they began showing Outlaw Star, DBZ, and Gundam Wing. Still, for all the milestones, there are always a few things most of us would prefer to forget (Hamtaro, anyone?), but even those memories can be laughed at fondly.

Farewell, Toonami, and thank you for all the memories.

It's hard to believe Toonami's actually gone now. It just seemed like one of those things that would be around forever. I rarely actually watched it in the last few years, but I still tuned in occasionally. Like many others, it's what got me into anime and I doubt anime would be as popular over here as it is now without it.

Oh man, this thing is bringing everyone out of the woodwork. I can't believe JohnnyPsycho is in this thread . . .

Hey gang. What's up. Heh. I kinda . . . stopped coming around when I couldn't get my passwords to work on my TWO accounts. So I started a third, because this is BIG.

And sadly, the last BIG thing to happen to Toonami.

I'm . . . sad. Like, really sad. Toonami did a lot for Anime in America, and thus a lot for Animation in America.

I don't know what else to say. Sorry I have to come back on such sad terms.

I gotta admit, the main reason I didn't come here anymore was simply because I didn't follow Toonami as closely as I used to, and I felt almost like I had outgrown it. If there was ever a moment for me to have come back for one last "hurrah"... well, this is basically the moment.

It's weird, like coming to a funeral and seeing old friends you haven't seen for years, all grown up...

I feel bad that I missed the last airing. Never expected something like that to happen..

Just like everyone else I grew up watching Toonami. It's what got me hooked on anime. Everyday no matter where I was or what I was doing, I always got home before 5PM to watch all my favorite shows.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they will give birth to a new anime block.

Overall this saddens me a great bit.

Well then, Johnny, march your ass over to Miscellaneous, and let's catch up. You, specifically, actually helped me through something way back 5 years ago.

Ironically, it's a saga that still, in a way, continues.

Toonami helped feed my interest in Japanese animation, which in turn helped feed my interest in Japanese stuff, which after a long and winding road through college and majoring in Asian studies, has led me to where I'm sitting right now.

Once again, you totally copied my life, thanks. :p

Just like Shinobo said, it was Toonami that really sent me off down the path which I now travel. For years I've been hiding this fact, telling everyone that asks why I major in what I do "Oh, my grandmother had a lot of Japanese Prints in the house growing up" or "I read a lot of haikus" or some similar BS account. Recently, I felt it had gotten to the point where I began believing my own lies. I was denying the fact that Anime, and Toonami in particular, had played such large roles in why I became interested in Japan. Ever since this announcement, I've been reminiscing about my early days with Toonami, on how I was so completely obsessed with it that the rest of my tweens are practically a blur. Toonami was the reason that TDA was the first message board I ever joined. Toonami is the reason I'm pursuing my chosen field. Toonami is a big part of what made me who I am today.

I won't wish Toonami to R.I.P. because it's not going to. For me, the block was gone years ago and this was merely an empty shell. Even so, I hope this makes everyone appreciate just how absolutely revolutionary Toonami was and how it impacted our lives. It wasn't just some stupid block of cartoons. The animation it broadcasted spoke to our generation and opened up a whole new world to everyone who saw it. In an era when modern media has dimmed the brains of so many, these shows introduced us to loss, to pain, to excitement, awe, and wonder. Every culture needs a mythology to drive its spirit and creativity. This is what Toonami did for us.

Thanks.

Man... I literally CRIED when I heard that Toonami ended. How the hell, man? It's been 11 years. I remember coming back from school each day to turn on my TV and watch a good dose of Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, and a number of other awesome shows. I actually got into Dragon Ball Z, all thanks to Toonami. I never really got to see the Moltar years, though. The thing that really hit me hard... is that I wasn't even there to see Toonami end!!! I just found out a few days ago after web-surfing. Toonami did sort of get less and less cool between '07 and now... but I hate to see it ACTUALLY get CANCELED. It could've been saved! Cartoon Network has officially screwed us over. I am NEVER crossing that damned channel EVER again. Farewell TOM, SARA, Absolution, Moltar, that little-camera-thing-that-I think-didn't-have-a-name, and of course... Toonami, the single greatest cartoon block ever. It's been a lot of fun. Thanks for making my childhood something special... something that I'll never forget for the rest of my life. See ya, space cowboy. Bang.

I didn't see a great amount of toonami's past thanks to no cable TV at home. But I had first caught some of it's airings at my friend's houses as far back as Tom 1 in either '99 or '00, instantly loved it. Just basically everything they had on the block. From then on I would try to catch it at anyone else's home when ever possible. But it was kinda hard to do that with other families schedule's and all, so I'd usually only get to see toonami two or three times a month total. A pitiful amount - but that was really the best I could get out of it.

Finally just after xmas 2003 we had cable installed but as most people will say the best part of the party was over with by then, weeks later it was reduced to Saturday evenings only. It was such a kick in the balls to finally have cable but not really be able to see what first got me hooked on toonami and anime in general.
I've still watched toonami over the last 4 years off and on, some of it has been decent. But what I remember from my friends houses long ago blew away the more recent programming.

So yea, because of the whole not having cable previous to xmas '03 you can imagine how happy I was to find TDA existed a few years ago (I think I found the place in 2005? something like that). I hope TDA stays online for the foreseeable future, good work on collecting all the bumps/intros/endings/promos/ect. Razz I just can't believe it's actually off the air completely is all.
