Post subject: FDD wants a new computer
|
|
|
|
Yes, my laptop is a formidabble machine for doing schoolwork and playing games i enjoy...except one....
World of Warcraft
I <3 WoW, but my laptop doesn't. I fear for it's safety as the fans aren't making the best of noises lately and they've already been replaced once. My parents only said they would buy 1 computer for me and that was the laptop, now I have to fend for myself, which means getting money, which means a job....I can't wait that long.
I know it's probably stupid to ask you guys for any form of support or help towards funding my new computer, hell it was probably stupid for me to make this topic, I just get pissed off when I can't do anything at all in game. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

I would give you my laptop, but it can't do games... at all. (Got it back in 1999, or was it '98?) _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."

I was using a P3 800 with a Radeon 7200 up until last June, when graduation brought upon this earth a beast of a laptop. The 7200 was an upgrade from a Rage 128 Pro. Try running WoW on that. Actually, try running anything more graphically detailed than Half-Life on it. At least your computer runs the latest games.
Just get the fans replaced again. Or quit WoW before you turn into the WoW version of the Everquest freaks. That might be the best option. WoW will outdo EQ2's pizza command with something even worse. You know it. Save yourself. _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

Go to Digg.com. Theres usually some good deals for bare bones kits. As for software, just hit up any p2p site. |

UPDATE:
Another fan has died on my laptop, forcing it into half-power mode 90% of the time it's on now. Of course this means I can't do anything besides the basic stuff, so no games for me for a while.
I wish I could get another computer, but it's not so easy. My parents only agreed to buy me one computer, and now it's on its last legs. I know most of you don't care, I'm just saying for anyone that might listen. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

Perhaps you can replace the fans? I was having lag issues on my laptop, and then the other day I cleaned out the fans and now I haven't had a frame skip on me yet. I would think you could find some wey to keep your system cool. _________________ anime is teh s uck

A fan died on me about the same time a year ago, but it was the other fan. Seems when i sent it back in they only replaced the faulty one. I don't have anything to clean the fans with anyways. So I think i'm just gonna try to hold out and buy a new computer; though I am unsure of how long that will take. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

You should be able to buy some compressed air and a tiny screw driver. What brand of computer do you have? Mine is a dell, and it was literally 4 screws and I had access to two of the three fans. Saw SHEETS of dust. Blew them out. Computer is dandy now.
Granted, the fans themselves weren't broken.
But you should be able to purchase replacements, I would think. _________________ anime is teh s uck

Dell Inspiron 8200
If you can tell me which screws I would need to undo that would be great. I don't think my parents wanna shell out $100 fora repair shop if that's the only problem. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

I have a Dell Inspiron 9100. I don't know that it's the same, BUT! Turn your laptop over, you should see vents on the bottom. Everything on mine is pretty modular. Take two screws out, and a compoent pops out. Slide component back in and screw it back in and it's all set. So long as your careful, and the laptop is off, obviously, you should be able to figure out where the fans are. It wasn't that hard for me. _________________ anime is teh s uck

I managed to get access to the fans...sorta. I have to remove 4 screws from underneath, lift up the keyboard, and my god the dust and crud that has accumulated over 2 years. Too bad I am without compressed air for now.
Also I have read that the fans i have only last 6 months at full capacity, so i'm suprised they lasted a year between each time for replacement. So i'll just send in my laptop tomorrow to get it cleaned up and fixed by someone who knows how to. Things should be back to normal by the end of the week. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |

Fan died again.
Went to 2 places in town for repairs.
Both places said $200 in labor to fix a $20 fan.

Turns out when my fan went out last year, the parents got an extended warranty. Therefore, free repair at the cost of time.
Yay...
I'll be back on in a few days to post results. _________________ There is limited intelligence in the galaxy, but the stupidity of the universe is infinite. |
