Post subject: St. Bernard Software-It drives me nuts
|
|
|

Hey, guys
There are certain websites that I cannot go to thanks to St. Bernard Software. It blocks out any website that has unallowed content to view. Isn't there any way that I can avoid St. Bernard Software and view those websites?

I never actually used my schools computers for surfing. Other then tech Class. So I never had that kind of problem. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." - Calvin

As an ex High School Network Nazi let me say their are ways around them. A simple google search will show them with the right one word. But your admin is watching every domain that is hit. And trust me we know which will allow you around the firewall.
And as soon as you use these sites, not tools-sites, to go around the software. Well then it will be blocked tomorrow.
mwahhaha... i miss being a network nazi |

You give some of them too much credit. The Admins in my HS had no idea what they were doing. They never fixed things like that. So they got some students to help... which isn't the greatest idea. Seeing as a few of them weren't the most trustworthy people.
The only one who had a brain was my Tech teacher. Which is nice since he was teaching networking. He would yell at use for going to bash during classes a few times. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." - Calvin

What we did was to have a seperate T1 that we gave access to. If those helpers never told anyone else their passwords or how to break the system. Well instead of 500 people splitting a T1 there was 20. And we caught several of them abusing it and kicked them off.
So yes not all admins are smart. Just at our school we watched the net closely. And also did some positive things like putting up some good spam blockers. Its amazing to see what spam was sent to 9th-12th graders. Its a wonder places werent sued before they put the blockers in place. |

Why would anyone even want to use a high school computer for doing internet related things? _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

To be "cool".
Don't overthink it. It's high school. No one knows which way is up or which way is black or which color is gravity. _________________ anime is teh s uck

And actually in the case of the school I worked for it was a boarding school. So now you can understand why they needed the internet. For porn.
On the public machines, like in the library, they did do a lot of studying for classes. But that may be because it was a very diffucult school. One of the top 10 in the country.
But every machine had at least AIM and MSN Messenger on it. Because they werent smart enough to know there are web clients of each. Plus a lot of kids would do things out in the opne on these machines that would just make you got WTF?!! |

A) Dispute it all you want. I stand by my statement.
B) Wouldn't make me go WTF. You should have seen some of the stuff we looked at/did on the computers back in 7th and 8th grade. All out in the open. _________________ anime is teh s uck
