Well im back to lurking in here again. But I didnt see any new threads on this. So lets start a new one.

What do you think of Venture Brothers? It helps to answer this if you've seen more then the pilot. How are the ratings for it? Since Warby tends to be a "Jump the Shark" to any series.

I hated the pilot. It just went to far. But I keep watching the new ones. And i keep liking it more and more. The way I think of it as an extension of Harvey Birdman. You use a lot of old references and modernize them.

Alright lets hear it.

We needed a adult Parody of Johnny Quest.

We all needed it.

I like this series. It's funny as hell.

It's nice to get a new Cartoon Network original series on Adult Swim for once. AS Comedy being mainly a show dump of cancelled series from other networks (The WB, Fox, etc.) with the Williams Street shows being the only new stuff for 15 minutes every week (and Home Movies and the pilots, both of which only came once in a blue moon) was getting a bit tiring over the past couple of years. It's finally nice to see something fresh.

I love the show, but I'm honestly surprised they didn't just go ahead and do a show using old Johnny Quest footage ala Sealab...I swear, I'll NEVER get sick of overdubbed old cartoons.

I think part of why the show works is because they didnt do the overdubbing. Because it is new characters. How many times have you watched the villans and just thought how stupid they were in this? PLus the addition of the mage at the house was a great bonus.

"You used an orphan boy in there?"
"Well not all of him"

I really wanted to hate it after the pilot. But the disney bit and last weeks pirate ship just won me over. Would i watch it with my 4 year old son? Hell no. He saw the pilot at 1am with me one night when he couldnt sleep. Which is part of the reason i didnt want to like it

(sound of a zipper)
"Brock no"
"Sorry Doc you know i have to desecrate the corpse"

They have crossed the adult line so many times. Whether its Brock in the bathroom after his latest encounter with Ms Cocktease

"I thought the cold war was over?"

To the pilot with the whore. Its crossed the line so many times. Im suprised it hasnt been censored more. CN seems to be pushing it in advertisments to. But none of them are aimed at kids. Which is a good thing isnt it?

Also the animation is old school but not Cyborg 009 looking. You manage to have old school mixed with a 2D CG look. THe voice acting is well done as well.

I love any show where you can see a scientist using his robot as a dialisis machine after having his liver stolen in Mexico again. Classic.

Also, I love it when CN crosses the line...you have to expect it. CN is the "preacher's daughter" of Turner Broadcasting...you can only repress her for so long until she screws the football team.

Finally got a chance to see to see it last weekend. That was a brilliant representation of dorm life. Laughing
"How does my dad always know when I'm in my room?"- It took me up to the third viewing to get that, it was that subtle (or I'm that slow).
And calling the former Team Venture into action was great. Everyone's going to say "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (the Connery imitation will point that direction) but the real geeks will get that Jonas Venture = Doc Savage.

therefore:

1) T.S. "Rusty" Venture = Benton Quest, and
2) Dean & Hank Venture will grow up to be Shaggy and Fred. Very Happy

Actually i thought that dorm episode was the weakest of the season. This weekend trial of the monarch was ok but still not the best. The death of Race Bannon now that was a classic beginning.

I loved the yard sale episode, especially the bit about the real lightsaber and how horribly impractical it was ("...and the military said 'they don't swordfight anymore'..."). I loved the dorm episode too, ("Who the hell are you!?"..."I think that's your roommate.") hell, I love every episode of that show. And the spot-on parody of the Fantastic Four...purely brilliant.

Venture Bros. is funny. The parodies of the heroes, and villians are hilarious!! I think it's brilliant too, and funny.

Regarding the (season?) finale: I should have known they'd do that at the end as soon as I saw the helmets, but they caught me by surprise. Wonder how they'll write around that...

Chupacabras. They're all over Mexico.

My guess is this isn't the first set of Venture Bros. that bit it.

Don't think this is a reach-around because the MONARCH DOESN'T SWING THAT WAY!

Venture Bros is the opposite of Johnny Quest to me. Some of the characters seem like Johnny Quest characters too. Instead of the typical good guys win theme Venture Bros goes into the villians lair, and create a funny plot that the villian conducts. The wierdest villian to me is the Monarch. His schemes are out of this world.
