In an IGN article published last week querying the possibilities of US anime companies moving toward distributing High-Definition video releases, FUNimation came out as solidly in the Blu-Ray Disc camp, with hints of a possible HD release before year's end, and details to be announced at next weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego.
This weekend however may have brought their first release to light. A listing at AAA Anime indicates that FUNi plans to release a DBZ Broly Movie Blu-Ray Double Feature on November 13th, at a list price of $34.98.
No other details are currently listed, although reports of Funi's Otakon panel from this weekend confirms the Blu-Ray announcement will be made at Comic-Con.
UPDATE 07-26: A
press release announcement from FUNimation lists the two movies as
Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan and
Broly: Second Coming, remastered directly from the original 35mm Japanese film in high-definition, digitally restored video and enhanced with an all-new 5.1 surround sound mix. All the special features on the disc are in full 1920 x 1080p HD, including a featurette about the restoration, remastering and high definition processes called "Dragon Ball Z: A New Look."
