Post subject: ASA Premieres (Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: SAC)
it's rare that adult swim features two new action shows at the same time (FLCL/Blue Gender happened last year, but some balk at calling FLCL an action show), and while i know little about either Fullmetal Alchemist or Ghost in the Shell, each does have a reputation preceeding it...since we don't seem to have any threads dealing with either show as the episodes air, i figured merging them both into one should cover all grounds...
my initial impressions of both were positive...i like FMA's balance of seriousness and comedy, as it gives me a good, Trigun-like vibe...i'm already liking Ed's antics, and i hoping things continue to improve in the coming weeks...
Stand Alone Complex looks great, but i must admit i'm a bit lost at this point...i haven't seen the movies, so i guess i have to pick up on the various technologies and the setting while everything goes on...i can't help but question the lead female character's "police attire", but i suppose i should expect that by now...

I've never seen either movie myself. So I'm getting a little sensory overload, too. Fortunately for me, I can go back over the DVD and re-watch what I missed. *dodges bullet*

If it makes you feel any better, in the first GitS movie she had to get naked to go all invisible like in the first movie. Other than that.. Seems to be like the NSA meets CSI. Only with cybernetic stuff and isn't like either of them.
As for FMA, I was getting the same kind of Trigun vibe.

You really want to question her about she's wearing? go ahead it is your life . Also GitS:SAC has no relation to the movies. However it does use a few characters from the movies
I've seen all of GitS:SAC and FMA. I might keep up with them on AS, depends. I want to at least watch till I hear what Roy Mustang and Hawk Eye's voice sounds like in the dubb of FMA. Both shows have great music. I just kind of hate that they used my least favorite opening for FMA as the ending song . Also . I was surprised to see they left the opening for GitS:SAC in. Did they leave the Ending is as well?

I heard the video was sped up, and music shortened, the same way they do Bebop now.

I'm so happy CN picked these two up. All they need to do is get Chrono Crusade and Mezzo on there and will literally staple my ass to the couch every saturday.
FMA is just what it promised to be and CN presented it almost perfectly. I'm entirely surprised the opening sequense with the severed limbs managed to stay in. Only thing I wish they had done was keep the original opening. READY STEADY GO is one of my all-time favorite themes and I remember watching the 1:30 opening for at least an hour straight. An interesting note is that the voice of Alphonse Elric( Aaron Dismuke ) is in fact a real twelve-year old kid. For an added effect they placed a metal bown in front of his mic where the pop shield would normally be to make the voice inside the armor be more authentic. FUNinmation is slowly gaining back it's rep with me after this.
GitS has also seemed like 80% obscure political intrigue I couldn't give a rat's ass about and 20% InF***increable fight scenes. SAC is about the same except the intrique is slightly easier to follow. _________________ Bang.

At the end of the first ep, the first opening, "Melissa" by Porno Grafiti played, so it had the opening at the end.

I am getting more used to Ed's voice more and more, BUT I can not stand Al's voice, I thought it sounded like he was talking into metal, and I was right, the problem with it is, The actor speaks to softly into the metal sheet. Sometimes I can not make out what he is saying at times. Maybe it will get better.

I managed to catch two eps of FMA and one of GitS this past weekend while I was home.
Let me set the scene right before my second ep of FMA (having only given half my attention to the first ep that I saw on Thursday).
I was watching Megas and it was meh, something about it was jut blah. And I thought "Maybe I'm loosing my love of cartoons."
A few hours later, and a few shows that were various levels of entertaining later, FMA came on. And it was solid. And then the end came. And that alchemist guy grabbed a screwdriver and turned it into a sword and right there, right in that badass moment, and in teh 15 second fight scene that followed, I rememberd why cartoons are awesome.

Full Metal Alchemist has definatly renewed my interest in anime. I've been afraid to look over threads about it here. Because i dont want plot spoilers.
I was hooked in 5 minutes. Im debating geting my hands on the subtitled version so i dont have to wait. Im guessing its what 12 or 26 episodes?
