Hey, who are you calling a loser? I'm trying to keep this place from dying. Obviously not working, since I myself haven't been here in like a month. Anyway, I hear there are some sexy losers here?

This thread shows we foresaw this happening almost five years ago. Too bad a solution was never thought up...

Man, you guys forewarned yourselves, and you still didn't do anything about it. I'm hoping you guys will take an active part in the Revolution, and thereby, at least somewhat, re-insert yourselves into the sensual experience that is Toonami, along with all us sexy losers. Wink

Really, I hope all you guys plan to participate in Revolution 11. Even if you are not a fan of Toonami now, you were at some point or you never wold have signed up. Actually, if you hate Toonami right now, you should especially be writing. For me, Toonami changed my outlook on the world and effected me in a profound way. Especially all you vets. You are the ones that cared the most about Toonami. Anyway, I wanna hear you guys' thoughts on all of this, the Revolution and everything.

Too bad we never got that Toonami channel they promised us...

rizwan, it's nice to know you can see the kind of community we used to have here. It took a long time to cultivate, but that harmony was also part of our downfall. The problem was that once everyone here formed this tight-knit group it was kind of intimidating for new people to come in to breath new life into the board. My theory is that while we fought hard to eradicate n00bs we also became a bit pseudo-elitist...or at least appeared to be to a lot of would be new posters.

Forums are an interesting social phenomenon that have their ups and downs like any institution. The longest-lasting successful forums like say SomethingAwful are completely different than when they started. Since they first started these forums have ballooned to include dozens and dozens of sub-boards and tens of thousands of posting members. The old guard has for the most part been pushed out of the scene and either been made moderators who no longer actively participate in the community or they went elsewhere looking the forum equivalent of a quiet suburb away from the insane bustling of the main boards.

We didn't go that way. For one, Toonami itself sort of fell on its ass. Even as early as 2004 we stopped caring what the block did and instead retreated to the misc. boards for the majority of our posting. Eventually we just ran out of misc. babble and then all it took was a few of the main posters to move on in life for the whole thing to just fade away. In comparison to a lot of message boards, this place was pretty damn small anyway, so I don't think our slow demise should have come as a shock to anyone.

Like all things on the internet this place is only held together by pieces of code and the input of its users. It's a lot like Cheers. We all get together once in a while for reunion specials to reminisce, but there's really no longer a reason for us to hang out here that much.

Unless someone puts a new label on this board I don't see a resurgence in posting every happening.

Thanks for your thoughts, Zechs. It's nice to have a customer stop here and get some jerky once in a while at this place which has become so much like a pit stop. May I ask what you mean when you say, "Unless someone puts a new label on this board I don't see a resurgence in posting every happening."

Well, what kept everyone here so long after the doings and dealings of Toonami stopped being our main concern was the community we had created. But even so, that doesn't change the fact that this board was supposed to be about Toonami. So, I think that if there was something else that all the people here could congregate around to discuss that didn't have that excess baggage, then we might be more likely to come back into it and draw in new people. I just don't know what that thing could be.

Not a bad theory. To bad implementing it would require people to actually start talking about Toonami, excess baggage or not. Well, in any case, it's good to hear from you Zechs. I hope your stay isn't too short.

A fascinating look at the life cycle of an online message board Zechs. Before I came here, I would typically migrate from one board to another every few months as my interests changed, so I never really gave the overall process much thought. Nowadays I simply lurk at a few places, no longer having the desire or time to participate actively anywhere...

Still, I habitually check in here on a daily basis, even if there's very little to do. I see this board as more of a checkpoint for the community that once was, and someone's gotta light the way in case an old-timer stumbles back in, right? I guess you could say this board is like one giant "Martin's Bar" in that sense... =)

After saying all that let me clarify one thing. Out of all the boards I joined over the years this was the one I considered home. I was able to come in at a time when there was a small collection of established members, but not too many that I felt I could never make a dent into the inner circle. That was TDA's best quality.

It's never going to be as kickin' as it was back when it actually had a purpose, but I think as long as people are willing to put the effort into posting once in a while this place can at least be worth visiting again. Keep it up.
