It's been a LONG time coming...

well, hopefully by airing 'em on tv, media blasters will get around to releasing the box sets that were mentioned after the ending credits on the last dvd, so i don't have to buy all 22 volumes individually like my friend did...

these gifts from my friends came with a warning however: while they've respected my wishes not to start buying me kenshin dvd's (for those who don't know, i've been holding out on collecting the series in hopes of box sets), if there's no news on said boxsets by christmas, they WILL begin the collection for me... =)

After watching the Rurouni Kenshin TV series with a friend of mine last year, I've been interested in collecting the DVD's. I was about to start purchasing them individually, but following the last episode of the series, there was mention of box sets being released sometime in 2003. I figured this would be the best route to go, but we're already halfway through the year and I've heard no news whatsoever about Media Blasters releasing said box sets. Has this idea been scrapped entirely or merely delayed?

Nope, best bet would be to look on ebay for some deals on buying the dvds...
I know a lot of people are interested in buying a box-set instead of shelling out 20+ dollars for every DVD that's been released. I'm pretty sure that many of us who already shelled out the money for these DVDs individually would like a box to store them in. Unfortunately, those wishes will not be granted in the foreseeable future since there have been no announcements confirming the release of a box-set.

Rurouni Kenshin Wandering Samurai Premium Box Set - 810 minutes - $139.98 - 11/18/2003

many, many thanks for the specific date on that one nobuyuki...it'd be nice to finally chip away at the big blank space on my shelf specifically reserved for said series...

JJc14 (10/26/03) wrote:

does anyone know where i can get some photos and/or further information about the wandering samurai box? from what i've seen, i can't tell if they're just repackaging the six individual dvd releases or redesigning the whole thing entirely...

JJc14 (11/25/03) wrote:

first off, thanks for the various screenshots of the boxset woojae...i'm liking the design and style of the box, but i don't really agree with how the dvd's are packaged, as i have the room for the individual cases but not really the box setup...i may just have to go the "buying them individually" route and pick up the empty boxes to compensate...

JJc14 (12/25/03) wrote:

well, let's see here...my friends thought they'd be funny, giving me kenshin volumes 1, 2, and 22, with a message to fill in the middle on my own...

With Kenshin, I'm now left with three volumes (10, 20-21), with #10 currently on backorder. We'll see how much longer it takes to complete the series...

Yep! I plan to run through the Kyoto arc over Spring Break and give the entire series a run come summer...

(If one of these disks doesn't work though, all living things should beware my wrath...)

I'm not sure if they were being cool. Since it was hidden in back with the Hentai DVDs, but I guess that isn't strange since it comes with the 1st volume of the OVA. I would have missed it if I weren't paying any attention.... Not that I would ever pay attention to that section... really I'm not kidding Sad

And Initial D season 1 is out? I guess I'll try and get that soon. How does it look anyway?

Well, it's basically the exact same TokyoPop discs in a fold-out digipak with the same ghetto English dub w/replaced music and crappy visual tricks. But it was a cheap pre-order and the Japanese sound and video tracks are unmolested.
Although it still looks like a 10-year-old show.
