My scalp tastes like peanut butter.
Anyway I've watched my fair share of DDR at cons and arcades, but I'm always too embarresed to play. We have a DDR exhibition at school every week by the south cafeteria cause some kid brings in his PS with screen and a pad. Mostly it's just the same three guys that play so it's not that intresting when there's no sound and you can't see the screen from where you're standing.
But now that the PS2 is so cheap I'd defnietly go ahead and get one just so I could start playing at home. _________________ Bang.

story-time everyone! (i.e. move onto the next post if you don't wanna be bored to tears...):
i honestly had absolutely no interest in trying out the game...not only did the music seem unappealing and annoyingly loud, but the "type" of people i always saw playing it locally were nowhere near the crowd i'd associate with, so i typically avoided it like the plague, moving away toward my "macho" shooter games and 'semi'-macho pinball...
anyway, a friend of mine from back in high-school came down over the summer after staying up in pennsylvania for about a year...we went bowling but arrived before the rest of our group...he saw the ddr machine and went right over...he tried a few attempts in vain to get me to join in and popped in his dollar and picked his first song...
"great, more techno.." is what crossed my mind, but i suddenly froze..."i know this song!"...it was very 'pop'-ish so i knew it had to be anime-related, and then it hit me...
it was a remixed version of "freckles", the rurouni kenshin first opening tune...
as soon as he finished, i asked about it...he just said it was a song he liked, and since he didn't have cable up at college, he didn't know what i knew...i let him finish out his other two songs, hesitated as he put in some more change, then finally cracked and put in some coin myself...
"it's only for the kenshin song", i said, holding vainly to my machoism as i stepped up on the platform (of course, those who've heard the song realize what a contradiction that statement presents)...having a second person up there seemed to attract more buzz in the arcade, as a crowd of people began to walk by and check out what was going on...
i figured it wouldn't be too bad, after all i lay down the rhythm for the music i produce, and my friend assured me that the easy difficulty would mainly deal with the backbone rhythm of the music...plus, being a rollerblader meant i had the physical acumen, so what could go wrong?
about ten seconds in, i realized the challenge...it's one thing to see the arrow on screen, but actually hitting the right button is something else entirely...the song began to pick up and i thought i was getting the hang of it quickly, but i didn't count on what happened next...
i fell...
[insert laughter here]
...as i sent my left foot forward to the up arrow, i kicked my right foot, sending me spinning off the platform...luckilly, i caught myself with my right arm and propelled myself back to my feet, but it was an obvious trip no matter how well masked...letting out a profanity, i recomposed myself for the last few seconds of the song and stepped off after it was over...
i humiliated myself in front of a bunch of strangers, i almost killed myself, but damn, that was fun...
plunked down five bucks that night, and on my friend's two subsequent visits we've done the same thing...i can't quite get a perfect on the kenshin song, but that's my goal (best i've gotten is six misses)...
of course, i have a few friends who can't take me seriously anymore after hearing and witnessing my (lack of) dance skills, but when i ask them to try it just once, they shy away just like i had...
so basically, thanks to kenshin, i've taken in something exciting that i would have otherwise avoided...is there anything anime can't do? _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

Well, I've never tried DDR, but at the prom last year, Cotton Eye Joe came on. And a group of people started doing this simple line-dance-ish type thing right in front of my friends and myself. And they were all girls. Not a guy in the bunch. And I thought "That looks fun." Now, you should know that I never take risks and won't do anything if I think it MIGHT at ALL humiliate me (which actually makes the event more humiliating every time . . . odd paradox of life.)
But anyway, I just said to myself "Fuckit." And jumped in. Most fun I've ever had in a 3 minute period in my ENTIRE LIFE. Everyone that knew me was SHOCKED. It's one of the highlights of my high school career, to tell you the truth.
I just felt like sharing. _________________ anime is teh s uck

This was crazy.... yesterday I was walking with a few friends at Sunset Place (incase anyone knows where I’m talking about) and we entered the arcade as we saw a few people battling on the DDRUSA machine. Apparently one of the two was challenging anyone around to battle him for the cost of the game. I knew I'd loose but I decided to take him up on that challenge. After his last opponent failed Paranoia Evolution I stepped up. He got cocky decided to let me choose the song... I thought my only chance was to find a song I was familiar with. I flipped through the songs and I started to get pissed at the damn USA machine for having almost none I had played before... and then I found one: Stomp to My Beat. I had been practicing passing the 7 foot version of the song the night before to try and impress someone at the arcade. The kid that got an A on Paranoia somehow managed to get and E against me, where as I got a B.... pretty good for only playing for a little under two weeks.

That is pretty good, Mith. Most people don't make it to 7 feet for a few months. As for your story, JJc14, I loved it. Just remember to try a few of the other songs that found their way off of Happy Paradise 2 onto whatever mix you were playing. It might also be noted that DDRUSA sucks big time, also that one of the Lupin III themes is in 4th Mix Plus and 5th Mix. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.
