I think DVDs should hold the same standards too. I mean, can you believe the kind of stuff they show on a proprietary system delivered to customers that expect such content? I mean, geeze, the nerve.

I don't think it'll happen. There's too much Comcast and Time Warner money out in the lobby for any bill to get past.

But still, the gall to even propose it. You'd basically have to get rid of a couple articles out of the first amendmant.

It's more cheap political posturing, although I am surprised it's coming from the Alaskan senator. They used to have more class than that.

Well lets look at whats happened in broadcast TV shall we? 66 stations decide not to air Private Ryan on veterans day. Why? Fear of the FCC because of the blood and expletives.
The FCC decided to say it wasnt indecent because it was historical content.
The bigger issue is there is no defined indecency. Its all dependent on the decisions of a few in power to say "Yes it is" or "No its not". Last week it was Angel FROM LAST YEAR!!! That the FCC deemed ok.
If you dont want you kids watching it. Hey heres a thought turn on Disney or Pax and leave it there with the cable box locked. Its not that diffucult.
Ok i admit that the broadcast shows had free reign for years and went way way over board (dennis franz ass anyone?). But this is a swing so far in the other direction. But with the current leadership i dont see it getting fixed. |

Actually, Fodder, it's worse than you think. It's come out that virtually all (about 99.9%) complaints to the FCC come frome one source - the right wing Parents Television Council, headed by Brent Bozell. So you literally have a single group who is not at all representitive of the American public acting as arbiter of what is and is not acceptable on TV.

I think people should write letters of compliment to the FCC to encourage "edgier", less-censored entertainment whenever a controversial event happens on TV to counter the complaints.
