that link was to a single processor opteron computer with a pretty damn decent production-end video card (that still works pretty nicely for games) and it only came to 2,500. Alienware = gaming machines and very little else. You're paying for style and name with them.

Alienwares claim to fame was having a decent setup and a supercool ultra designed case. There was a time when they were sold sole out of gaming mags because the games market just wasn't big enough or old enough to support in-store retail. They were hella expensive then and they still are now. As I said before, go Boxx or HP for any and all prebuilt rigs. (the earlier link was a rig I had already put options on, here are the base models you should be looking at).

BTW, Xeon Processors = Da Bombdiggity for for any graphic, 3d, video work as that is what Intel designed the chips to handle.

If you get either of those I will garuntee that you will be the envy of just about every not mac grapgics majored student/early pro there is.

Then again, this the the route I'd go. And by that I mean will be going just as soon as my career actually starts.
