Post subject: I Crashed the Interweb!

Did anyone notice that a very large portion of the internet is down?
The only sites so far I've found still working are TIL, Megatokyo, Penny Arcade, and DeadJournal. I'm sure there are a bunch more, bue even Google is down. Probably a good 75% of the internet is down at the moment.
Any clues as to how? _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Why would only 25% of websites load and not the rest?
That's... really weird. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Usually because of a bad DNS server. Not on the "Internet" side. Either on one of your ISP's servers or, if your at work, your firewall server.
Times like that you will find that only Y! works for IM. Its the only one that uses direct IP addresses to connected and not DNS names. Which is actually kinda odd. But hey i have a flaky DNS server and it still allows me to use Yahoo IM. |

Cox Communications. A second in suckiness only to Clear Channel.
Though it may have been my buggy router. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

The best way to get around network trouble is... to have a neighbor with an open WAP. Hopefully, they'll be on a different ISP and the same problem should not exist. _________________ Able and Baker is nice. |

Funny you should say that. I was at my sisters house fixing her computer and just stole a temporary wireless connection. It was open and i needed it.
And im probaly going to be down for a week in august switching providers. So i'll be sniffing out a signal here to
My wireless isnt open. Its not as safe as it could be if I went nuts. But its better then just sitting there with your internet showing to the public. |
