Courtney Love, the Hole lead signer and widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is going anime. Love has inked a deal to develop a manga comic book called PRINCESS AI and will work closely with Japanese comic artists Ai Yazawa and D.J. Milky to realize the character. The adventures of Princess Ai will be published next year by Tokyopop, the leading American manga publisher.
And when Love's new album hits the street this October the singer plans on using imagery from the character and her world in new music videos, even incorporating the character somehow into her tour.
Variety said that PRINCESS AI is a troubled performer (hmmm...) who once lived in a faraway place as a real princess. When she comes to our world she has a career change and is followed by dangerous pursuers who know of her past royal existance. Ever the one for words, Courtney gave a quote to the trade magazine about the character: "Princess Ai is a great character because she feels like my alter ego, but in a fantasy setting."
This could open the doors for a whole wave of musicians looking to spin themselves off into comic books. David Bowie would be an ideal fit for Vertigo Comics, don't you think? Or how about Eminem over at Image? |

Now normally I wouldn't care about this if it just wasn't the title and the premise. Which just sucks because I'm sure there have been at least four series named that or something very similar and the fact that she's still going on with this stupid crap about her being some kind of misunderstood princess. Her band sucks ass and no one listens to them. She's not that talented and got her fame from Cobain. Who's suicide, she had a hand in causing.
