Post subject: What other channels could this effect
|

Random thought from a CNN headline
Quote: |
Warner Brothers, CBS joining to create CW Network; WB and UPN to cease operations, according to CBS chairman Les Moonves.
|
What cable channels do they own and what do you think it will affect? |

From what I've read so far, it only affects the UPN and The WB broadcast networks, not CBS or TW cable operations. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Well, since CBS split off from Viacom, there's no cable operations to affect on that side of the fence.
And the WB has been a separate division from TW's cable operations since at least Jamie Kellner's departure from the corporation. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

The only thing I'm thinking would be affected would be if Kids' WB (or whatever it will be) and Smackdown! would stay. It does not make any mention of Kids' WB, but I'm going to wait to see if they do negotiate for Smackdown! Besides, those are the two reasons why those channels stayed afloat. |

Kid's WB (though it's bound for a name change) isn't going anywhere- they're the 500-pound gorilla of Saturday morning programming (Nickelodeon is the 800-pound gorilla ). _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Then, Cartoon Network must be Godzilla. |

This is purely speculation, but I'm under the impression that Smackdown! will not be on UPN after the current contract runs out this fall/winter regardless of this merge...
From what I recall, the WWE has been beyond disappointed with UPN over the past year, from the Muhammad Hassan thing (and the creation of that 'network' guy to poke back at UPN itself), to the recent move of the show to Friday night. At the same time, I remember hearing that UPN was displeased with RAW leaving Spike for USA, which may have spurred on the move to Friday in the first place.
I haven't surfed around the wrestling sites in months, but that's where the situation was at last time I checked. At this point, you probably know more than me ToonamiL... _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

I thought the official announcement said that Smackdown will be on the new CW channel. |

I could see why WWE is upset with UPN (you know, banning Hassan from the channel and moving them to Fridays for other programming), but the same can be said for vice versa. UPN must go through alot of issues with the show, including blood (first few years), language, and content. Though, I think WWE knows they can't get away with the stuff on SD with what they do on RAW (seriously, they had the closest thing to live sex on TV that isn't premium).
BTW, They worked out a deal before the merger was made. It will stay on for two more seasons. |
