Well it's just a holiday for goonesss sakes. If we were to put down every holiday that didnt have some religios cause we'd be a pretty boring country. What would there be left to celebrate columbus day?. Hell, the Japanese have the right idea, they celebrate it just for the fun of the holiday and the presents, and they don't try to put a christian label on it to make it seem as if it has some holy purpose.

Oh, I'm all for celebrating, I just don't like the way in which it's done. I think Thanksgiving has the right idea: Food, Friends, Family, and No School.

For some strange reason, though, they still label random presents as from "Santa." Parents. Rolling Eyes[/quote]
Your parents do that too?

only my grandmotha does that. though my friend and I have a rivalry going for the last 8 or 9 years on who can give the other the hardest to open gift.Like who two yeara ago I wrapped a box of something (don't remember what) in 16 layers of duct tape interwoven with 15 plastic bags, 6 layers of packing tape, a grid of electrical tape, and finally about half a thing of staples. Oh and I wrapped it in wrapping paper twice, once on the inner most layer and then as the outermost layer (also right before I put the last layer of wrapping paper on, I covered the box in double-sided tape). Fun times.

That is nothing, one of my friends did this to another friend.
35 plastic bags
4 rolls of duct tape
250 staples
2 rolls of masking tape
all that surrounded the box, and then he wallpapered the box, yes he wallpapered the box, inside the first box was about five other boxes done like that, and then none of those had the gift in side of it, it was in his car.

Huh, mine do that too. Must be a parent thing.

And Gerbera, that is pretty damn funny. The 4th best thing I've heard today, in fact. Entertaining things just seem to get said around me . . .

I believe that Christmas was scheduled around the Winter Solstice celebrations. I don't know why it's the 25th, instead of the 21st. Maybe the difference between the various calendars used by the church.

They prolly just moved it so it would be more convenient to cater to the actual christian beliefs and make it farther from the pagan ones

Ah... boxes within boxes. I remember with one of my brother's friends, we started throwign in paper, canned goods (to weigh it down), and a few other... odd things. In the end, we had expended a roll and a half of packing tape, 5 boxes (the largest being about 3X3X3 feet), about a roll of wrapping paper (each box wrapped, several in multiple layers), half a roll of duct tape, and a bottle of glue. What was inside the smallest box, you ask? Well, the smallest box, which was only a few inches in any dimension, contained a hand-written note that he'd gotten a year's subscription to Game Genie (NES) updates.
Ah, good times...

You couldn't wait for the 25th to come, then once it did, you didn't want it to go. It's just jam-packed with awesome memories.

Sure I usually have good memories,
BUT I'M GONNA HAVE A FREAKING BROKEN WRIST FOR CHRISTMAS! That just ruins it for me, and the only thing that could make it better is if my cast(That I get tommorow) allows my thumb to move better so I can play my videogames again. All the simple things I can't do with a broken wrist. Christmas is usually my favorite time of year, but it is less special this year.

i sympathize with ya man...i had never broken a bone in my life 'till 12/30/99, when i shattered my elbow (hmm, the story could show up in the "moments of stupidity" thread), so i got to spend the big 2000 new year in the hospital, though being high on morphine did ease the pain...

mmm, morphine...

lol ...ugh, no Doug it's k, it's an understatement to my grandmother who was the ultimate giver of bad and reused gifts for christmas. One memory were socks, but the same socks over and over again, finally when the sock were pretty bad she just included a sewing kit onto my gift...it went on throughout my childhood and that's not even the half of my christmases...anyway...

Was it the good kind of pantyhose at least?
