Since the TDA MB is yet to be completed with every thread, I thought of re-creating the Video Games Thread. So try and talk about everything in here since there is no longer any actual section for video games. Mad

Did you know that the electronic game audience is going through a major paradigm shift? According to two reports made by Jupiter Research, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation.

the shift is defined along three axes:
-The average console user is already an adult (23 years old)
-The number of high-intensity users (those that play more than 15 hours/week) is set to grow 40% from 12 million to 17 million by 2007
-Low-intensity puzzle and board games dominate the favorite genre (61%)

"An older more usage-intense audience is a powerful change for game companies who struggle to adapt hardware and games for profitability in a highly competitive market. As the audience ages, the content will need to mature as well," said Michael Gartenberg, Research Director for Jupiter Research.

-One in ten adults owns a next-generation system
-Multiple and cross-device ownership is also prevalent
-Revenues of PC and console games are expected to break the $14 billion mark in 2007, up from $11 billion this year
-The majority of electronic games revenue will come from consoles, not PCs, handhelds, handsets, or interactive television

What these reports are trying to say is that with this change in gamer demographics, developers can focus their content towards this new, older range of high-intensity gamers and make lots of money! Woohoo!

I just thought was interesting enough to post. Most of us I think already knew or had a pretty good idea about pretty much everything said in there.

Phantasy Star Online is the greatest game ever made. It is so incredibly awesome that I cant find the right words to describe it. I got it last Sunday and the modem a couple days ago. If you like RPGs and Sci-fi you have to buy this game or you will miss out on the oppurtunity of a lifetime. (Mabye)

It is MAD CRAZY AWESOME COOL!!!!!!!!!!1111111111!!

I wanted to try PSO but I don't have the modem, nor do I even have the money for a game! At least theres no monthly fee like FFXI which sadly will be the first 3D FF game I won't buy.

I think there is for GC, there wasn't for DC but I think the Big N decided to implement one. Not sure though. Could have just been for japan.

Well Star Fox, Clone Wars, and Metriod Prime, and Phantasy Star are on my buy list for the next month no question. Would have put Sunshine on there except for the fact that i rented it and just about beat it in five days.

BTW, You hear that on Nintendo's website they were accidentaly selling the Modem for $2.35. Wink

well, at first i thought that starfox was cool, but then i decided to boycott it since it's THE biggest rip-off of Ocarina of Time that I've ever seen.
The graphics ARE really nice but the gameplay is just so similar that it's annoying. The other cool thing is the old school arwing flying and battles.ahh, the memories. I'm wating for Metroid and GCN Zelda, it's gonna whoop! I heard Vice City is amazing.

peace

As if there would be any other platform Zelda would be on? That'd be funny. Zelda on Xbox! Actually that'd rock.

I dont know about all of you crazy console people, but the only games i ever play are on my good old PC. The current reigning favorite is Jedi Knight II outcast, followed by Starcraft and Civilization III. For some odd reason I just can't deal with modern consoles; however, i find myself enamoured to the small collection of SNES roms i have on my hard drive. shrug.

Probably my biggest point is that you can generally get a better deal out of computer games than consoles, because the computer is a much more versitile machine. My computer is pretty old, but it can still run games that rival those of the PS2 and Xbox. The do it for much less cost because they have a dedicated processor that only needs to proccess video data. This only works if your using your PC for only gaming, a PC's other uses make it all over much better than a console. Uses like posting stupid things on random forums.
Despite their superior flat out video power, the PS2 and Xbox can't keep up with a high-end PC because of their display system. A TV, when compared to a modern moniter, is in the dark ages in terms of pixellation.

... It appears i have been rambling. Much apologies to those who bothered to read the whole thing.
