Do I come across as jewish? I ask this because today, something happened to me which isn't quite so disturbing as just plain confusing. As I was leaving school (LAST DAY OF FINALS, BABY!), another member of our class called me over to say goodbye. She gave me a plate of christmas cookies, a card, a hug, and said goodbye. When I opened the envelope, I was surprised to see it was a Chanukah card! Now I know for a fact that she isn't jewish, so I am now left wondering exactly what possessed her to give me this card.

Why is it that people tend to make these kinds of assumptions about people? Has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me that it's not just me. I don't think I could stand to be a mentally unstable, gay, jewish republican.

*NOTE* We apologize to the gay, jewish, republican, and mentally unstable communities for any percieved offernse. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay, jewish, or mentally unstable. Visavie, therefore, henceforth, ergo, and etc., the offending party will now be sacked.*
Wha-- *BANG!* *thud*

Describe yourself. Do you have an accent? What kind of clothes do you wear? Do you have a picture of you somewhere? There might be something that might resemble some kind of Jewish characteristic.

I've never been given a chanuka(intentionally misspelled) car, but I have had a fair share of people think I'm jewish, even alot of teachers.

It might have to do with the fact that I dislike christmas or that I whine alot. ^_^

as far as religious assumptions based on appearance, i honestly can't think of anything that would tip the scale toward one particular faith...i mean, i guess i'd perceive one as jewish if they were wearing a yarmulke, but other than that...

nobu beat me to my initial thought, but would that not lead to other assumptions?

Whoa, whoa, Rycel, you're gay? Did we know that about you?

I don't mean it in a "OH MY GOD GO DIE" type of way. I'm just curious. Cuz that word seemed to come flying out of NOwhere.

And my girlfriend is Jewish. So what am I supposed to do? Christmas present, or 8 Hanaka presents? It's kinda odd really . . .

And maybe she just wanted to confuse people, Rycel, and so she bought some Hanaka cards (I know I'm mispelling that word) and so she succeeded because you have no clue what the hell is going on.

People always assume I'm a lesbian because I like hugging and hanging on to the same gender. Which is weird, because I do that to both genders..

Hmm, according to avatars, I'm apparently in charge of making sure that John grows up into a responsible and/or acceptable adult.

Oh, wait, I am.
