Well, how much would someone in Japan care about an American award? I mean, I doubt I would care too much about an award from Japan . . . unless the award itself was a cool sword. Then I would care.

It's not that they didn't care. Ghibli announced a few weeks before the Oscar that Toshio Suzuki(who was going to accept on behalf of Miyazaki) canceled his attendance. The Offical reason given was Safety concerns related to travelling.

Well it went from #33 to #17 in three hours after the award ceremony at Amazon.com so maybe a rerelease will be good for it 
They'll be releasing it on DVD here soon too! So yay!
Now it's number 11!!!

Darn, the one time I choose to skip the awards something I want to win, does win. Is there going to be a repeat anytime soon?

it wasn't aired on mtv; it wont be repeated 60 times in the next week and a half; but you will be happy to hear that even if you watched the oscars you had a good chance of missing it; aparently it was one of if not the first one rpesented that night; so if you weren't wtching from the beginning you probably would have missed it (like me)

It was the very first award. And it's not really worth watching it get the award anyway. You didn't miss anything.
