I agree, those numbers are very impressive. I honestly didn't think Microsoft (or Sony and Nintendo for that mater) would have many at all. Come to think of it, does anyone know the numbers for the GCN and PS2 online?

actually, the whole "consoles going online" thing has me very interested...since i don't really do much online gaming even on the pc, i'm curious as to how they approach it...do they have some service that connects you to a chatroom like blizzard's b.net? do they support broadband and narrowband connections? what about fees and the like?

still seems kinda weird to be talking about online gaming...anyone remember the x-band (or something with a name similar to that), which did some sort of online play with the genesis and super nes? the sega channel was pretty kickass too, though that wasn't really an "online" experience in the sense of what it is now...

::sigh::...back in my day...

Its true, Square Has disbanded and merged with Enix. The new company is going to be known as something like Enix Square. Head to RPGamer.com for better details.

It should be SquEAnixare. (remember the Square/EA merge deal thingie from a year or two ago)

edit: Since I'm to lazy to click on your link to read about it and I came acrossed the story at a different site, I figure I'd just post the story up for all you who are as lazy as me.

Quote:
The two biggest names in RPGs will be under one roof as of April 1, 2003. Multiple reports from Japan indicate that Square and Enix will merge next year to form one company, Square Enix Inc., with Enix having "absorbed" Square. If the date makes you skeptical, the merger is scheduled for April 1 to take effect at the beginning of the fiscal year.

Details remain unclear at this time, including the structure of the combined company and how Sony's minority stake in Square would affect the new partnership. Square stockholders will receive .81 shares in the new venture for every current share they own, while Enix holders will get a 1-for-1 trade.

"In the ever-changing world of entertainment software, the most important issue facing companies today is how quickly they can grow as the marketplace and opportunities for business expand and diversify," said an official statement from Enix.

"Enix and Square's response to this issue is the merger announced today. Together, we aim to become producer of the highest-quality digital content in the world."

Square Enix has released early profit projections and will be headed by a combination of executives from both companies. A press conference will be held today to provide additional details.

Bah, I'm not going to argue with you spook, for only one reason. You misinterpreted just about all of what I said before. So I don't feel like argueing. Too lazy.

You stick with Micro$oft, I'll stick with GC. I just refuse to give more money to a company that has f###ed my computer up beyond all recognition more times than I can count.

In responce to JJc's question, all systems require a monthly fee for going online. I think GC is $5 per month. That's what I've heard at least.

But something I don't know. Lets say it is an ethernet connection. Would I be able to play online and still have the phone line open to telephone calls, much like my DSL connection that I'm using right now as I type this?

Slim, get Metroid Prime or Time Spliters 2. If you want a console game and not PC, that is.
