Is there really anything as too much of a good thing? If repeated use/action/occurance of a supposed "good thing" eventually causes negative consequences, is it really a "good thing" to begin with? And if there are no negative reactions from a given "good thing," why would too much be bad?

I hate helping people move.

Maybe if I drop enough fragile stuff I won't be asked to help anymore.

I must get this off of my chest. In all likelihood, I will have to say it again several times before the end of the year.

I hate enforced Christianity.

This morning, I had a large discussion over why I needed to go to church every Sunday. It has long been established that I am decidedly atheist, and I do not conform to the Presbyterian ideals. (According to my upbringing, I am not going to go to heaven. That's fine with me, because I see no evidence of an afterlife. (If you're one of those people who has the feeling that man was "destined" to do more than just survive, then get off your lazy ass and DO something significant. There are many people every year who announce that they've "had a good run" and have no qualms about dying. This is attainable, and I can't think of a better goal to have.)) Thus, every Sunday, I am subjected to two hours of biting back nearly every relevant thing I have to say, because it would get in the way of what everyone else came to church to have.

I can't bring myself to recite the Lord's prayer, because I don't agree with a word of it.

I have a very hard time singing the hymns, because they are almost as contrary. When I'm in the choir, it's a struggle, but I hold out because I agreed to lead the (pitiful) males' section, and my mother would beat me if I didn't.

At least 50% of what is discussed in church would fall under the definition of slavery, if "God" weren't a universally recognized "higher cause." Apparently, the proper relationship with this allegged "God" is to love him with all your heart and sell him your soul for the opportunity to say, "Yes, Massa, I's a good slave!" In return, you get to have eternity to do it again. But you have to die first.

Then, on the way home, my mother told me that she wanted me to be a part of "Senior Sunday," the day where the graduating seniors run the service. The usual duties are:
1. Saying how you came to Christ.
2. Performing Christ-related music and/or dancing.
I cannot bring myself to convey any definite message in front of people, unless it's at least moderately true. Thus, I would not be able to say or sing anything productive for Senior Sunday. I told my mother that the only thing I could do is to go through the motions of playing the cello. I also can't stand to do solos, but there are very few Seniors. I may be hard-pressed to find someone to do a duet/ensemble with. Basically, when Senior Sunday rolls around, I'm likely to stick out like a sore thumb, and hope that noone asks embarrassing questions.

I absolutely hate going to church, because I don't get anything out of it, and it is tortuous to restrain myself from exclaiming, "Don't you people understand what you're saying? All you are going on is a set of promises from something that refuses to explain where He comes from, what He is doing, or why You should trust Him! You're selling your soul to an unknown person, and for what?? A sense of comfort and belonging!! NYAAARRRGGHH!!!!!!" Must I further underscore my signature? I think it will become my motto for the rest of my senior year, because I keep being forcibly shoved into its consequences.
