On the screen I'm trying to see the ATA speed (33/66/100/133) each of my IDE drives is running at, but then the screen scrolls down so fast I don't have time to read it. I couldn't find the ATA speed in the Device Manager.

Here, read this

I really don't know where else to put this without having to make a new thread but I just read the above about how Intel developed the first 3+ ghz processor. Holy crap. We've pushed cpu's farther faster in the past 2-3 years than probably anything has been pushed before. It was just in 1998-9 that 1ghz was an unheard of speed, just a pipedream. What pushed the industry to work so hard? It was the competition between AMD and Intel. While Intel was top dog with no real competition in sight it became fat, bloated and slow to progress. AMD was able to catch up and surpass Intel breifly with the advent of the Athlon Processor. Now the two both work non-stop day and night to continue beating each other in a duel that can really only end in our benifit.

Oh, I do have a question. What's the difference between Itanium and Xeon MP processors. I know they are both for servers, but I don't have time to really look to see what makes them different. (I also know that at least when the Xeon's first came out during the time of pII and pIII they were desired for 3d modeling/animation)

The Itanium is a more powerful CPU than the Pentium. It has fewer pipeline stages which allows it to have the same strengths as the GHz processors while only running in the MHz range. Of course, the Macintosh processors just whoop both intel and AMD's asses. The macintosh CPU still has less pipeline stages as the Itanium!

Yeah Macs do suck, I was just doing my one good deed for today since Tyler has yet to see the light in PC vs MACs

You have to keep in mind that that was a 1.25 Ghz G4 against a 3 Ghz Intel.

Keep in mind that if you want to compair direct clocking speeds it's apples own damn fault for only having up to 1.25 Ghz.

I'd blame Motorola. And it was a dual G4 system getting hammered.

But gf is right about the pipelines being the bottleneck. Maybe the new G5 architecture will balance things. Whenever they show up. Rolling Eyes

...if someone could help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated...

so i turn on my computer this morning to do some web-browsing...as i'm scrolling down a page, my down key stops working...i go to hit page down and that's out too...opening up notepad, i find that none of the keys on my keyboard are working...now, i'm thinking "no big deal" as this has happened before...last time, i called dell (i was still under warranty at the time) and they were able to fix it by telling me to hold down the power button, which activates some 'dust-removing' thing internally that got my keyboard working...well, after two attempts, it's still outta commission...

...i normally wouldn't care, but for those who don't know, i use a laptop (dell inspiron 2500), which makes buying a new keyboard and installing it basically impossible...

...if it helps, i was fooling around with looking for games to download to my ti-83+ calculator and had plugged in a wire that connected the calculator to the back of my computer...the keyboard freeze didn't happen until sometime after, but i guess it could be related...

any help appreciated!

[note: if your keyboard is out, how can you be typing right now?
...guess you could say i'm resourceful...i found an old keyboard from about a decade ago and plugged it into my laptop as a temporary solution...at least i'm hoping 'temporary'...]

in your system properties can you try deleting your keyboard and letting windows refind it?
