Now whenever you send your snot-nosed kids to the arcade as a day-care center, prepare for them to come back mentally disturbed.
Oh, and I intend to share funny stories with all here.

Why am I not surprised you'd get a job where you're less than ten feet away from a DDR machine.

Actually, it's an In The Groove machine... which is better. Now all I need to to take a screw driver and a shop vac to it, and it'll be a well-mantained ITG machine.

I work in the machine shop at my school. I get to make metal and plastic into peices of metal and plastic of slightly less mass and slightly more useful.

Not much to say form my first day, other than people expect you to be their kids' babysitter. More than half of my work is at the redemption counter (where you bring tickets for prizes), and that's cool. All the people with tons of tickets seem to like clumping together and taking their sweet-ass time, though. Five people with like 400 tickets will show up about every two hours, and in between, it's an event if two people go to the counter at once.
The machines are the biggest problem, though. The token-taker things are built really flimsy and like to spit coins everywhere (I had to deal with this about three times just tonight), and the ticket dispensers like to jam up a lot.
The biggest characters are my fellow employees though. I'll give y'all a rundow of them another day, though.

So do you have to count the tickets the kids bring you or do you throw them on a scale and it gives you a close estimate?
Or maybe you have a fancy machine that counts the tickets for you?

We have a machine that's accurate to the milligram, so we weigh them. And if the kid's cute, we breath on it while we hit the measure button.

Ah, that takes me back. I remember wrapping long strings of tickets into a ball, weaving pieces of paper and/or pennies into it and making the ball as heavy as possible, which would register as anywhere between an extra 5-40 tickets. By the time they started to unwind the thing to break off indiviudal tickets, I was already gone...

So yea, might wanna be on the lookout there Bono...

...and that penny is worth a hell of a lot more than the 10 tickets it would imitate.

Nice job, brainiac.

Now, now, by that logic, I'd be better off spending a quarter on a game to get the same amount of tickets triggered by a penny on the scale. Either way you're getting ripped off, but it's all about degrees of rip-off-ed-ness. Besides, when you're eight, a quarter is a lot of money; a penny could be found lying around any phone booth...

...you know, reading over that paragraph again, I've referenced games that'd run on one quarter, as well as phone booths. Good god, I'm old...

(I'd also just like to point out that after all these years, I've finally been on the receiving end of the classic 'verbal quip' from Mr. TylerL. It does sting a bit, but I'm still breathing... =)

Both of those things are still around... True, they aren't making a NEW .25 games and nobody who wants to make any money is making new pay phones, but still...

Imagine how it would feel if I were at the top of my game.
