Post subject: Toonami Jetstream premieres July 17th
I can't believe we haven't posted about this yet...
via Toon Zone:
(Anaheim, CA) Viz and Cartoon Network released new details about their upcoming Toonami Jetstream online service at a panel today at Anime Expo. The panel also hosted the premiere of the English dub of The Prince of Tennis.
Although the service will launch on July 17, Cartoon Network new media executive producer Molly Chase said fans should expect "something special" on the on-air Toonami on July 15. (Like maybe a Naruto marathon?- N.) The initial shows to run on the service are two Cartoon Network originals, Megas XLR and Samurai Jack, and four from Viz, including Naruto, which currently runs on the on-air Toonami. MAR and The Prince of Tennis will premiere on Jetstream, and Hikaru no Go will run on the service as well.
Jetstream will use Windows Media format, and will allow users to watch an unlimited number of shows an unlimited number of times. The service will include mandatory advertisements before the show streams begin. Manual selection of bitrate will not be available; instead, an automatic sniffer will set audio and video quality, though the representatives did emphasize that Jetstream is targeted at broadband users.
The primary focus of the service will be the shows, the reps said, but there will also be a feedback tool to allow users to voice their comments. Each week, a new media editor will issue a summary of responses to fans and news from behind the scenes. Toonami interstitials and a "downloadable treat" will also be available, Ms. Chase said.
Shows on Jetstream will be edited to Toonami broadcast standards and will be dub-only, with no subtitles for on-screen text. New episodes will appear online every Monday before noon, and will remain available for four to six weeks before being cycled out in favor of new content. On Jetstream, Naruto will start from episode one.
On the line-up, Ms. Chase said, "We feel like, if Toonami were on air 24/7, this is what we would program."
There are no plans yet to expand the service to other anime licensors or to other shows.
:edit: Added the link to Jetstream's website. Watch the preview promo! _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

What can we do? I mean you guys are all his real life friend right? Is it time for an intervention?
Do you sit him down and make him watch Ninja Scrolls, NGE, and some sort of giant mecha anime? Do you make him sit through a Tenshi marathon?
What can you do before becomes a full on narutard and starts to post "Naruto rulz u!" _________________ Certified Narutard

No, no CP you are NOT ADDICTED TO THE US VERSION!
And Prince of Tennis for the win. This I will most likely watch because the subs are like at episode 620,000 or something. Not to mention that when they edit out the crappy music I won't mind as much, because it's....well crappy.
But when you edit out my favorite songs(AKFG's Haruka Kanata) then you've got hell to pay. HELL TO PAY TOONAMI! _________________ Bang.

Monopoly at it's finest...
You might be able to run Jetstream by using IETab in Firefox. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Tries that, Nobu, seemed to only crash my browser (and I got that RenderTabInIE thing a few months back just for thing like this).
My reccomendation is to use IE. As much as it sucks, it won't kill you.
Also, anyone know why I can't change my IE homepage from msn.com to something I ACTAULLY care about? It's really pissing me off . . . _________________ anime is teh s uck

Yeah, that didn't work for me, either. I guess I'll consider myself lucky to have Windows and broadband at work. Yay.
The only thing we can safely assume at this point is that you must have everything up-to-date to use Jetstream.
- Windows XP operating system
- Internet Explorer 6 web browser or higher
- Windows Media Player 10
- Macromedia Flash Player 8 or higher
- broadband internet connection
- located in the USA
...basically the same specs required for In2TV, as opposed to being able to use the Fix.

Assuming you have high enough privileges on your own machine, there should be no reason you can't change it, unless MSN is your service provider. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

I'm the only person on MY laptop, and we use Verizon (been having oodles of trouble with said provider, don't want to talk about it. I'm bitter.) So there's no reason that I can tell why MSN.com should be my homepage. I've tried changing it, and it doesn't work. To the point that I'm MAD at my machine. _________________ anime is teh s uck

I tried using that months ago on some other websites. It's crappy and worthless.
Anyway, a word of warning: Don't upgrade to Internet Explorer 7. For some reason, it doesn't work well with Jetstream. You get either audio/video problems, an inoperable site, or it crashes the browser altogether. Stick with IE6 for now. _________________ Toonami visual schedule - UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2015

I just watched my first ep of Hikaru no Go on Jetstream and all I have to say is...
BEST F*CKING THING TO HAPPEN TO THE BLOCK EVER!
They're able to keep the opening and ending themes intact, the resolutions are great and audio is high quality. Minimal advertising, great line-up of Tween-ager shows.
Not to mention that it's more than just a faceless media page, the feedback option and the "My Favorites" point towards customizability and the possibility of fan-based improvement.
Toonami, you are now my friend once again.
*I have one small complaint. I hate jumping up everytime a new scene comesbecause it knocks the window out of full-screen.* _________________ Bang.

This may not work, but if you click on the following link it should allow you to view at least part of an episode of one of those shows:
I'm not sure how well it will work though, because there are some numbers in the URL and I don't know what they do. (Perhaps it is some license or encryption number, I'm not sure.) But it worked under Windows Media player in both Windows and Mac for me, and also worked in VLC under Windows (but not Mac). _________________ Able and Baker is nice.

Good suggestion, since IE 7's still in beta.
Something mentioned in the Toon Zone thread was to make sure your firewall or anti-virus utilities weren't disabling ActiveX controls.
And maybe turn pop-ups back on for the Jetstream site, just in case.
Of course, I've no idea what I'm talking about. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis
