Jerry Bruckheimer Films is negotiating for the movie rights to Ubisoft's hit game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Today's edition of Variety scoops that Bruckheimer is eyeing the property for feature development at Walt Disney Pictures. The deal reportedly includes a script which is being written by the game's creator Jordan Mechner. John August is supervising script development and serving as executive producer on the film.
The original Prince of Persia game was released roughly 15 years ago and Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the 3D sequel, is a multi-platform smash. For those of you not familiar with the game, here's the setup according to IGN Cube:
The game is set in medieval Persia, Earth's mightiest and most mysterious kingdom, where a king and his son defeat the powerful Maharajah and kidnap his daughter, looting his palace of priceless treasure, including an extravagant hourglass, and a mysterious dagger.
What the Prince does not realize, is that these two objects can turn their possessor into an immortal god, and give him control over time itself. Tricked by a dying Vizier bent on harnessing this terrible magic for himself, the Prince releases the sands of time, destroying a kingdom and turning its populace into ferocious demons. Only the Prince, the Vizier, and Princess Farah, the kidnapped daughter of the Maharajah, remain unchanged. Now, it is up to the young Prince of Persia to call upon every resource and ounce of courage he possesses to save his kingdom and redeem his fatal mistake.

So...more info on the Batman film...so it's set in the past right? My eyes hurt today from tiredness and white on a black background isn't doing my reading skills very much...
I'm looking forward to this, nothing can be as average as Batman and Robin. I didn't really like that.
Anyway, with the release of Batman Beyond/Teen Titans/Justice League etc. in the last few years, do you think the new Batman film will have a wider audience than it might have had without...? When did B&R come out?... _________________ rednekbob9: 1: You're Female

it's possible that there's some kids out there who were spared the horror that was the "Ambiguously Gay" sequel to the Batman series... _________________ "The principles you live by create the world you live in; if you change the principles you live by, you will change your world." -Blaine Lee

Color Gyllenhaal 'Green' for superhero film?
By Chris Gardner, Reuters
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Kevin Smith is zeroing in on an actor to jump into the "Green Hornet" suit.
The filmmaker -- currently prepping for the March 26 release of "Jersey Girl," starring Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler -- has met with Jake Gyllenhaal about taking the title role in the Miramax project, sources confirmed.
Thanks to a positive chat with the actor about the famed character and the direction of the potential franchise, Smith is now interested in casting Gyllenhaal as the crime-fighting superhero who also doubles as Daily Sentinel publisher Britt Reid.
Other names may still be in the mix, but sources said Gyllenhaal appears to fit Smith's current conception of the character. If all works out, it would be Gyllenhaal's second brush with a superhero suit: He had been put on standby to step in as Peter Parker/Spider-Man last year when, for a brief time, it looked as if Tobey Maguire might be exiting the Sony franchise.
Gyllenhaal, whose credits include "October Sky" and "The Good Girl," next stars in director Roland Emmerich's apocalyptic thriller "The Day After Tomorrow," set for a May 28 release via Fox.

'Spider-Man 2' to Hit Theaters Earlier
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Feel that prickly sensation on the back of your neck? It must be your spider sense telling you the year's hottest sequel is arriving sooner than expected.
"Spider-Man 2" will hit theaters June 30, two days earlier than scheduled, said Jeff Blake, vice chairman of Sony Studios.
That gives the movie a two-day head start on the Fourth of July weekend, one of the busiest times of the year at theaters.
The announcement Wednesday night at theater owners' annual ShoWest convention came with more good news: A third installment in the "Spider-Man" franchise, based on the Marvel Comics superhero, is due out May 4, 2007. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. USA Today kick-starts the hype machine:

Comics return to big screen
By Scott Bowles
USA Today
April 5, 2004
The comic-book film season is upon moviegoers. Again.
After a year of sporadic performances, comic-book adaptations return to the big screen -- a little bruised after some notable flops in 2003.
No fewer than six comic--book adaptations are headed to screens this year, beginning last Friday with "Hellboy," the Dark Horse Comics story of a demon recruited by the U.S. government to battle evil.
Other entries in the illustrated invasion:
• "The Punisher" arrives April 16 with Thomas Jane as Frank Castle, the Punisher. He's a former FBI special agent who becomes a merciless avenger after his family is murdered.
• "Spider-Man 2" swings into theaters June 30 with promises of more action, thicker plotlines and a more villainous villain in Doc Ock.
• "Catwoman" makes an entrance July 23 with Halle Berry, wearing a leather bikini-style costume, in the title role. It reportedly cost $100 million and has inflamed some fans, who say Berry's costume is more titillating than true to character.
More obscure characters also debut this year. "Man-Thing," based on the Marvel Comics series about a mindless swamp creature that grows more dangerous as your terror grows, arrives Sept. 3. And "Blade: Trinity," the third installment of Wesley Snipes' series, hits screens Aug. 13.
These films come despite the fates of comic-book entries last year. "The Hulk" took in $132 million, but cost $172 million to produce and promote. "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," which cost about $98 million, brought in just $66.5 million. And the $52 million "Bulletproof Monk" got only $23.4 million.
Although last year produced solid comic book ventures, including "X2: X-Men United" ($214.9 million) and "American Splendor" (critical raves and $6 million), filmmakers and stars say they have learned their lesson. One cost-saving tactic: hire less costly actors.
"Hollywood's finally figuring out that you don't have to spend $100 million to try to make a blockbuster that's going to appeal to everyone," Jane says.
"They're seeing the value in making a $60 million movie that will appeal to the real fans, turn a nice profit, then make even more money on video."
Indeed, "Punisher" was produced for $33 million, and "Man-Thing" cost $30 million -- about $70 million less than the average Hollywood release. "Hellboy" cost $63 million.
And studios are pushing their films in smaller comic book venues. Sony and Marvel studios dispatched "Hellboy" director Guillermo del Toro to the Wizard World comics convention in Los Angeles last month.
"You can't just take a famous title and put it on screen and expect people to come see it," says Del Toro, who turned down an offer to direct the latest Harry Potter installment.
"It may work for one weekend, but comic book fans know if you respect their characters. And they'll make you pay if they can see you don't."

John Woo Plans Metroid Movie
The news first popped up via The Hollywood Reporter, detailing that Woo had optioned the rights to the Metroid franchise. In addition, he is expected to co-produce and has the option to direct.
"Everyone involved is looking at this as a big-budget picture," Brad Foxhoven, who shares production duties with Terence Chang, told the Reporter. "We see a tremendous opportunity to launch a film franchise with Nintendo as a partner."
"We are very fortunate that there is such an extensive amount of material to draw upon for the film due to there being so many iterations of the game over the years," Woo told the Reporter. The movie will apparently focus on the origins of Samus Aran, and her adventures battling Metroids and the Mother Brain.
