i kinda had the same idea after thinking about it...we're introduced to it as the cause of death (sano's friend), so in that sense, it's not like they're saying "use it"
still though, i was expecting a sake-like coverup... _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

Post subject: Sony's dub has been released in other parts of the world
AFAIK, the Sony dub that they named "Samurai X" was definately released in most of ASIA and CENTRAL/S. AMERICA.
Cartoon Network is releasing the edited version of ADV/Bang! Zoom's dub that is available on DVD on Toonami at 6:30.
One thing I want to say:
The Japanese pronunciation/voice acting in general conveys the emotions of the characters very well. And the fact that the dub doesn't keep the "Oro" signature phrases does take away from Kenshin.

thursday night:
we get a glimpse into megumi's past, as it's revealed just why she is being saught by the obiwaban group and her dealings with opium...sanoske's hesitant to believe her, but happens to overhear takata basically blackmailing her into coming back...he goes to stop her, only to have to fight off another obiwaban member, who actually appears to give him a rough time...while sano eventually takes care of him, megumi gets captured and the "kenshin group" sets out to save her...
friday night:
going through the courtyard, we get a glimpse at sanoske's best attack (the yahiko toss), and kenshin psyches out takata...aoshi takes megumi away and puts presumably his best man ahead to take care of kenshin...while he (the name escapes me) initially has the upper hand, kenshin does eventually overcome and meets with "leader" aoshi himself...surprisingly, we see kenshin taking a lot more hits than we're used to as we're left on a cliffhanger into next week...
it's hard to comment on these episodes, because i don't wanna spoil what's coming up...i guess i'll just say that, like the rest thus far, i'm enjoying it, and that's really all that matters... _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')

so how is kenshin? _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

so far I'm quite impressed with kenshin. its probably one of the most adult shows that have aired on Toonami (I don't count special events). While humorous at times it does deal with some things very well, like the opium and how it caused whats his faces friends death and blah blah blah n stuff. The animation is either really well done or complete and utter shit (they had 3 frame run cycles for gods sake!) I wish they would have spent more effort on making the over all thing a litle better and not have skimped ont he budget for everything to make the ation sequences kick so much ass. _________________ "Veni. Post subject: Kenshin IS anime goodness at 6.30p EST
Yes, Kenshin is a great show. Barring the edits that I *will* disagree with, it has fun characters, fights that are no longer than 2 - 3 episodes and a lot of heart.
You can easily find a favorite character or villain, and it's really fun to watch.
The worst edit so far was episode 7, but all in all it is a great show to get into anime with.

I'm really glad everyone is watching it. That was all I really wanted, but yo be serious, I am starting to say that they tried with this dub, I mean they got a voice of a prodigy to play Aoshi, the prodigy. I will say, you should all give the sub a try because man their voices are so cool in that, if you liked this dub, you'll absolutely die for the sub. Glad to hear you like it, when We start kyoto and we see Aoshi again, ohh hoo hoo.

which edit in ep 7 was so bad? the only one I think that really should have stayed in was the other manslayer dude guy stabbing himself with his wakizashi, none of the other edits really had very much meaning. the watch you from hell quote didn't need to be in, it just would have been nice is all. _________________ "Veni. the heated fight between aoshi and kenshin comes to a close, with kenshin having to pull out all the stops just to hit the guy, and kanryu basically snaps, pulling out a gatling gun in an attempt to kill everyone in the room...the obiwabon group defends their leader, giving their lives to stop the gatling gun, allowing kenshin enough time to break it and kanryu's face...megumi begins her new life learning medicine down the street, and a dark image of aoshi around the graves of his men rounds out the episode...
- i have to agree with cc here, aoshi's just got a great voice, though it may be hard to discern with only three episodes...does his english voice sound like his japanese counterpart, or are they too different to compare?
- anyone else notice the red stuff in much greater abundance today? while i'm sure they still had to cover up quite a bit, what they left in had me thinking i was watching adult swim...
aoshi's definitely a cool character, with his calm, cold nature playing a direct contrast to kenshin and the others...kanryu also succeeded as a villan, especially his laughter while the obiwaban members dropped...overall, a great story arc with a little bit of everything... _________________ "Life's a journey, not a destination..." -Aerosmith ('Amazing')
