*scratches head*

is it just me, or if the hole he fell in is filled with water, wouldn't he be able to swim out?

Good news, Sai! I finished calculating how long it'll take for the hole to fill with water to the point you can climb out, taking into account the volume of the hole, the flow rate of the seawater, the volume of water in the swimming pool and the pressure rate fluctuations as it drains, yadda, yadda, yadda...

"...And?"
"Uhm...throw one end of that rope back up here."
"Grr... Catch!"
"Got it! OK, now to tie it to something solid..." *looks around, sees Dread* "Bingo!"
.
.
.
FDD: "Are you sure about this?"
"He's playing FF-XI, he's not gonna be moving for a long time yet. Now according to my Boy Scout handbook, this kind of knot should hold, and not cause Dread any discomfort, not that he'd notice anyway."
FDD: "I didn't know you were a Boy Scout."
"I wasn't. I just beat one up and took his handbook from him."
doug: "Really?"
"Scout's Honor." ^_^
.
.
.
"OK, Sai. We're all set up here!"
Martin: "I have a bad feeling about this..."

you did take into consideration that saiy's mass times the acceleration due to gravity, g, needs to be less than dread's mass times the coefficient of friction between dread and the surface he is sitting on, right? also did you factor in the max tension of the rope. If the force that saiy is applying on it is greater that its max F sub t, he'll be stuck in that hole for a while longer.

Note: F sub t is the tension force in the rope.

Or, he could just use the ladder I chucked down their earlier.

Sorry about that.
I'm a mechanical engineering major.
It's a nasty engineer's habit to analyze everything.

And why is that hole still there?
Shouldn't the nano's have fixed it by now?

What's to fix? The trapdoor works perfectly.

Anyway Sai, don't let yourself get confused by scientific facts! If you pull hard and fast enough, you'll be out in no time! I'm almost sure of it!

Martin: This really sounds like a bad idea...

you forgot to multiply his mass by g as well Normal force*coefficient of static friction... unless he is moving...

in metric units, force is in Newtons. Which is also the unit of weight. Kilograms (or grams) is just a measure of mass. So, if you were to convert all of this to standard, you would just have to take dreads weight in pounds...

Oh wait, did I say take his mass?...
Yeah, my bad.
I was thinking in terms of weight.

I should have said the normal force is equal to mass times the acceleration due to gravity.

Thanks doug.
Sorry about that.

^_^ I've taken physics 3 times.

and depending on the slope of the floor, but then we won't get into that...

Yeah, I'm nearing the end of my first college physics class, Physics 211 (a.k.a. University Physics)
It's really nice.
Having to derive everything while taking the test.
It really makes you learn the derivations, or at least makes you learn how to derive things.

And we don't get a notecard.
I actually am enjoying myself.

Did you take the same class three times, or three different classes?

Doug: Oh its rather simple really, See you take the~

Dread: WAIT! Puller pulled another monster *goes back to playing FF-XI*

Doug: :sighs:

Martin: Wait.. Dread? Where is the rope?

Dread: Eh? Oh I tied it to Kero's double.. the one asleep on the pool table.

JP: You didn't....
