Thanks, Nobuyuki. That actually makes... sense....

I hadn't considered that the Conscience circuit actually gave him a compulsion to do good, once he was trained in the right emotions (as Mitsuke was so desperate to do).

But, still! Me no like OVA! Me want Jiro home!

You all probably know this, but here's a fun vocabulary fact...

Bijin means beatiful woman. She was conceited for a reason, look at her name.

Crispin Freeman was underused but he did awesome.

No bridge between series and OAV=boooooooo!

SPOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIILEEEEERRRRRRRRS AHOY!

But I did dig the OAV, even if Rei and Ichiro died like Putties in their last "fight"

I finaly saw the ending last night. It looked like everyone from the series was stading around in the rubble looking for Jiro. But that girl who was dropping water on Guilds son at the end, didnt she have the same name as Komigies daughter?
The reason I think they left the manshon was because remeber at the end of the series it looked like they have moved to a smaller house like in more of a rule area, so the Doc could get away from all the old memories and robotics.

But what did they cut from the end of the OVA?

Straight from translator Neil Nadelman's post at Toon Zone:
Quote:
Hi again. Well, here we are at episode 4, and it's time to reveal
what was cut. The biggest problem with the cuts made in this episode
is that we not only lose the first couple of minutes, but also the
epilogue of the series. This OAV was already rushed and unable to
realize its full potential, so the loss of the post-end credit dialogue
cripples a show that was already trying to do too much with too little.
Anyway, first we have the prologue of the episode:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
WITHIN THE CONTROL ROOM OF THE ARMAGEDDON GOD, AN ARMY OF ANDROBOTS
STAND AT ATTENTION. SLOWLY AND DRAMATICALLY, GILL HAKAIDER ENTERS,
FOLLOWED BY SHADOW KNIGHT. GILL IS RESPLENDENT IN HIS DISCOUNT DARTH
VADER CAPE AND BEJEWELED BATTLE SHORTS. OKAY, HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY HAVE
BEJEWELED BATTLE SHORTS, BUT HE DEARLY WISHES THAT HE HAD.
THE TWO OF THEM WALK DOWN A GRAND CORRIDOR TOWARDS A RAISED PLATFORM.

GILL
Your rebuilding efforts are
impressive. I appreciate it.

SHADOW KNIGHT
It's my pleasure
and my honor, sir.

Completing the ultimate weapon
project is our earnest wish.

It's all for your sake,
Lord Gill.

AS THEY NEAR THE PLATFORM, WE SEE A GLASS CAPSULE RESTING UPON IT.

SHADOW KNIGHT
Lord Gill,
our preparations are complete!

The time has come for
Dark to rule the world!

GILL PICKS UP THE GLASS CAPSULE AND HOLDS IT OVER HIS HEAD.
INSIDE IS THE NEARLY CATATONIC AKIRA. GILL LAUGHS HIS EVIL LAUGH...

OPENING TITLE APPEARS
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, it's a typical Gill scene, with lots of forboding and Gill acting
evil, as usual. The rest of the show plays and after we see the shockingly
offhanded deaths of Ichiro and Rei, Jiro finally learns that the price
of being human is a ***** to pay. After he finally crushes Gill's brain,
he walks off into the sunset. Unlike the last three episodes, the end credits
roll over the animation of him walking away. As the last names roll by,
we hear Rieko/Bijinder's voice...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

RIEKO
"And so Pinocchio became a real boy.
And they lived happily ever after."

FROM THE BATTERED HANDS OF BIJINDER SLIPS THE COPY
OF PINOCCHIO. IT FALLS TO THE GROUND, OPEN TO THE
FINAL PAGE SHOWING THE HAPPY LITTLE BOY WHO WAS
ONCE A PUPPET.

RIEKO
And yet, I wonder.
In becoming human...

THE SCENE CUTS BACK TO JIRO, STILL WALKING AWAY FROM THE CAMERA.

RIEKO
...did Pinocchio
truly find happiness?

JIRO TURNS TO FACE THE CAMERA. WE SEE TEARS STREAMING DOWN HIS
FACE, BUT HIS EXPRESSION IS HARD TO READ. HE SEEMS ANGRY,
AND TERRIBLY, TERRIBLY SAD. AS THE CAMERA MOVES IN CLOSER,
WE FADE TO BLACK.

THE END

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

You see? This is why removing the credits really crippled this poor show.
The whole story of Kikaider is predicated on the question of can a machine
achieve humanity. In the end, Jiro achieves it, but the price is an awful one:
He has to sacrifice purity and commit a necessary evil act for the good of all.
His conscience circuit prevented him from doing it at the end of the TV series,
but he was able to make the final sacrifice, ironically, thanks to Gill.
And while the world is saved and Jiro "wins" in the end, the ending is filled
with mixed feelings. His brothers are dead by his own hand, and we're not sure
whether Bijinder is still alive, either. Jiro has achieved humanity, but he
seems to hate himself for it.

This is all lost by cutting the epilogue. I hope that all of you out there
who enjoyed this series will watch it on DVD and see it as it was meant to
be seen. What's interesting is that a new DVD release of Kikaider 01 is
coming out in Japan with "extensive new editing," which suggests to me that
they went back and fixed the worst of the animation mistakes (Like those
motionless jet fighters in episode 4. Jeez, those were embarrassing...).
There's also talk of a bonus short episode called Kikaider vs. Inazuman,
who was another Shotaro Ishinomori hero.

In the end, I enjoy Kikaider 01 more for the final act than as a whole.
I only wonder what sort of series we might have gotten had Kikaider been
popular and the Zero-One series had been given a proper number of episodes.
Who knows? Maybe Cartoon Network will want to order some further adventures
of the Kikaider brothers and we can have a full-length Zero-One series which
can treat all the characters as they should be treated.

Oh, and am I the only who thinks this show should have been called Kikaider 2,
rather than Kikaider 01? I mean, Jiro and Gill are still the main characters
and Zero-One doesn't even make it out alive! Sad, really...

Of course, Neil's also documented the cuts in every episode, usually the prologue before the opening credits.

After seeing the OAV again, I can't help but wonder where Rei's bike was. Jiro and Ichiro had theirs', and their own instruments, but Rei didn't have any of those.

Thanks Nobu. I hadnt watched the last episode yet its sitting in my Tivo waiting for me. But I had thought everyone had given up on the series. As the shows went further and further I was really starting to enjoy it. Even though the addition of Rei felt forced.

Now the ending will make more sense.

Yea, when I first started watching the show it seemed like every eps was the same thing, but when they got more into the story, like when they where searching for their mother, thats when things just kicked up.

What I didnt like thow was the ending. Someone said CN cut it. But over all it was just too rushed. I was kind of hopping that Giro would have some how saved his brothers and retured to Minsiko. But they might have just did that so they could make another movie or something, but a little lead way would have been nice.

echo!

I like this show, but they need to make a Freeman filled new season. Freeman didn't get enough play, HOLLA AT ME DAWG!

Ok, that just felt weird.
