Are we talking about just the US? If not I elect the the Atacama Desert being pretty much the safest place you could live. You might get a possible earthquake, but not likely.

Nah, still too many moutains. A few have almost come up between Baja Mexico and the mainland, but all they do is kick up 60-70 mph wind. That's normal in October and March anyway. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

True, but monsoon season can do worse. Two years ago, for example, was more rain and faster, though less destruction. (The interval saw a lot of rainwater management improvements.) _________________ This space left intentionally blank.
