Post subject: Get to know your Adult Swim fellows!
AdultSwim.com has added a new portion to their site: Employee of the Month! Here, they interview various Williams Street employees (picture included!) so we can get to know the guys behind the scenes at WS a little better!
This month's Employee is Les Harper, assistant director for Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.
If you had asked me that two years ago, I would've automatically answered classic WB. I still love that stuff, but right now I'm really fascinated by the contemporary guys like Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken. Clone Wars I think was simply amazing in its style, and some of the stuff I've seen Craig working on (was allowed a sneak peek at a tape) looks to be truly inspired. But I like action stuff, I like the new Justice League, Teen Titans…I'm not too into Anime because I don't really dig on cutesy stuff, but I certainly appreciate its finer qualities…nothing beats the first 20 minutes of Akira for a fine action open. That's my television answer. For film, the three greatest works of recent animation in my opinion have been The Iron Giant, The Triplets of Belleville and the rare (but not so recent) rough cut of Richard Williams' The Thief and the Cobbler. I really loved the design work in Iron Giant and Triplets, while Williams is just a master animator, artist and storyteller at the top of his game in Cobbler.
I like this guy.

Hmm, I think it would be animators in general that are cool like that. I think it takes a certain type of person to animate (there are some damn tedious aspects to it) and if you DO animate, it's like making music. I play piano, and thus have a respect for anyone that can play really well (hence my love of Ben Folds). If you animate, then you can see things in animation that the average viewer wouldn't, and respect it. Hence the level-headed and logical views of both this guy, and you Spook.
By the way, I didn't know these shows were animated in Flash. I could tell they were computerized by the smoothness of the motions, but I didn't think you could make something that professional looking in Flash. _________________ anime is teh s uck
