Post subject: The changes in the Justice League series
|
|
|
|
(i did a search and found no real thread to dig up from the dead to restart)
As a critic of the series when it started. I have been more then mildly surprised at the set of changes that have happened. The show has matured in so many ways. They have gotten rid of the really nasty animation and replaced it with OK CG. Though they need to intregrate it better.
I have wanted to start a generic thread about how the series has changed. And really hadn't before this weeks.
**********SPOILERS***********
I cried at the end of this episode. I actually shed a tear. Because I am of the right age to have watched the Super Friends. And I did not see that coming.
******* END OF SPOILERS **********
The show could have easily gone many directions. We could have seen it become a parody of Super Friends. It could have become a show with any of the leaque becoming the main character and the rest just straight men. But its actually attempting to get you to know all the different lives of each character. You have seen Flash shown as a human eogmaniac. And as a true superhero, in reference to the space station earlier in the season. This weeks episode appeared to be an Aquaman episode. But really was about Hawk Girl, Grundy, and religious beliefs. Who knew Grundy had a history? He was just the comic relief of the superfriends. Pushing him as Hulk is a bit much. But when you see the history you go "Well now that makes sense". I could have done without the General going after Grundy. That was a bit to much of a hulk reference
There is still a lot they can do with the series. But during the Flash episode last week. You saw a lot of flaws appear they appeared human. The whole Just Us League.
So in short i just want to say that sometimes it pays to persist with a series. I know a lot of you were happy with it from the beginning. But i am starting to look for more in a series. And we are starting to see it. Now just to see one crossover JL and Teens Titans. Just to see Cyborg and Flash work together would be worth it |

The only problem i have with the justice league is that there isnt enough villans they could bring back characters like black manta, sinestro, the scarecrow, captain cold and maybee the riddler those characters alone should make the show somewhat interesting but dont get me wrong i enjoy it but killing off solomon grundy was just plain wrong that had to be the saddest episode ever. |

The saddest ending in a cartoon, in my mind, has to be a Futurama where they clone Fry's dog. I didnt cry my mouth just hit the floor that they would end it like that.
As for this one. They have already broke back a bunch of the characters you named. They were working with Lex just like in the past. But this is the first time you see any of them out of that story line. I still think you will see more of them. There to much of a story line to pass up.
I also think we're going to see Hawk Girls home world this season. Just a gut feeling. They have made several mentions of it. And her saying "Its so far out even the latern corps hasnt found it". So i would expect we will see it. Also this weeks episode is a direct link to her homeworld.
btw did anyone notice the two references to the old aguaman? One was "Call the war council. I can't hear the animals anymore. The sea is empty". And this his calling for help. |

Sounds like I missed a good one... ( [/vacation] s uxorz)
But I wouldn't get too upset considering Grundy wasn't really alive to begin with... _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

You definitly missed a good one, aside from his hulknitude they did a realyl good job on expanding his character beyond anything we've seen before. It's almost a shame it ended the way it did. This had to have been the first time I actually cared about Grundy. |

usenet was talking about the how the team of Grundy, Dr. Fate and Aquaman was a "wink & a nod" to Marvel's Defenders (Dr. Strange, Namor and Hulk).
And of course, Cthulu... _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Yeah who was called Hathulu or something weird. Didnt catch the defenders reference. I should have caught that.
And it should have repeated today and tomorrow on Toonami right? |

Doesn't look like it. They're still repeating Season 1 episodes on Toonami, with "Savage Time" (Season 1 finale) leading off next week.
Bet it shows up in December, since "Twilight" (Season 2 premiere) repeats on the 1st. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

They need to crank out them batman/superman/beyond/league box sets... I'd settle for putting them in the works.

Well, that would most definitly explain Grungys hulk factor.

Todays (well last night's) episode was very good.
It brought back a few more "real" villians from super friends.
Grod is back with psychic blasts.
Giganta is here 50 feet tall.
Sinestro's yellow ring is charged.
Clayface attacks after he gets out of the can.
Some ice chick (obvious attempt at political correctness by replacing a guy with a girl).
And Shade is here as well.
And the Justice League almost breaks up.
Great scene when Flash has to interrogate some one by dropping them off a building, running down the side of the building, and slowing the guy down with his really fast spinning hands.
Or just before they break up:
Clayface breaks into a warehouse.
Batman zapps him.
Clay calls out the Secret Society.
Batman says, "Wish I thought of that. Oh wait," as the garage door behind him is pushed down by Lantern Ring, "I did." |

man, even her origin is just like Mr. Freeze's... how can I possibly respect a supervillain when they don't even have an original orgin story, dammit?... _________________ "The principles you live by create the world you live in; if you change the principles you live by, you will change your world." -Blaine Lee
