The bad news: This episode looks like crap.
The really good news: Next episode feat. Sanji looks to be awesome!
The sorta bad news: Have to wait 2 weeks for the next episode.
The good news: Reason for the delay - The train carrying the animation crew for the last few episodes derailed killing everyone.
Anyway, some screen caps coming soon....and a WS raw?
Caps...
...And next week:
HOO-HAAA!! That is gonna be sweet!
Sanji#297(left) is already jealous of Sanji#298(right).
Thanks Crossbones for the pics.

Well, for those of you who don't care what the animation looks like, this episode won't be that special. To the rest of us...
WOW!
Sanji looked awesome and we finally get to see a little of nicely done Luffy/Lucci fight. This episode was pure eye candy.
Crossbones saw the premier
I'm back!!!
One word review: So-so. Is that one word or two words?...
I'll come back and elaborate. But lots of special guests at the premiere, including the most specialist of guests!
Ok. First to show up were the two comedians who you might have seen in the trailers. The woman walked up by herself. I almost didn't recognize her dressed normally without makeup. The guy came later in a car and bolted into the theater. By the way, this was early so I was almost the only one there. Later when the line grew and show time got closer, the seiyu and costumed mugiwara crew walked in. Same as last year. Then, right before they let us in the one and only EIICHIRO ODA(I think he deserves bold all caps) walked right by me very casually with two other guys. One of them shook his hand and congratulated him on the movie and then the three of them went in. I don't think people expected him to walk through in front of the theater so nonchalantly. I didn't see anyone notice him.
As for the movie. First they showed a Dr.Slump short which was ok and in that short they introduced the One Piece movie. That was a nice touch. Music first. I think there are a couple of new pieces but I'd say 90% of the score was taken from the other movies. I specifically noticed pieces from M2, 3, 5 and a lot from 6 and 7. Maybe there was stuff from 4 but I can't remember. Also there were a couple of classic OP tracks from the TV show. So I don't know what the CD will be like. Maybe a best of movie or something. On the cheap Toei! Ironically, they didn't use the Movie 2 track that opened all the Arabasta episodes in the TV show. The ending theme is kind of forgettable. I'll buy it anyway 'cause I'm an idiot.
Animation:Overall, it was ok but I was really surprised at how weak it was in so many places. Some of the drawing was pretty disappointing, compared to the other movies. Usually, the characters looked very similar to the Movie 7 style(sans bouncy boobies), but a couple of times, especially at the end of the Luffy/Croc fight, it looks a lot like Movie 6: animation and actual scenes, but only briefly. Really inconsistent animation, imo. Probably a lot of people won't care about this, though. It's just me. The story is really compressed, of course. It often felt rushed and not as well paced as other movies. I might have felt different had I not already seen the entire TV arc though. The action scenes were uninspiring for the most part. Choreography was of the action was just boring too often. Zoro's fight was a little better than the others, imo.
No Smoker and Ace, btw.
LOTS of CG.
For some K-F people this movie could be a problem because there are Robin spoilers from her past. So if you're not caught up with the manga or raws, you will be spoiled.
This part I'm not sure about but after the credits there's a very brief clip showing all the latest, updated mugiwara bounties as shown in the recent manga chapters and I THINK it's an announcement for Movie 9. That's right. It went by fast, so it was hard to follow but that was my impression. We'll have to see if other people saw it to confirm. Maybe Dythim.
Anyway, I know this review sounded harsh but I'm very picky when it comes to animation, so don't be too discouraged. Actually, it was fun to watch. The story is great. There were indeed some really good scenes. So yeah, there's more to say but I can't think of everything now.
By the way, for K-Fers who read my reviews for M6 and M7, the weird guy who talks to himself was there again! Aaaagh! Right in front of me in line. But this time I think I gained some insight. He's not actually talking to himself but to someone else.......who's not there. :/
Merchandise pics and program scans coming soon.
I heard rumors from a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE of new intro and ending at episode 300.

Well, guess what DIDN'T happen in episode 300. Reliable source, my ass.
Anyways...
-300-
Zoro and Kaku finally wrap things up, Robin tries to eat the bridge and Luffy gets steaming mad. Animation wasn't great. Some scenes looked pretty good but other shots were horrible. Could have been worse. Still, there were tons of great scenes packed into this episode. Really good.
Yeah 300 is gonna be sugeee i jus hope Zoro's Asura is animated as well or even better than Sanjis Diable Jambe.
Not even close.
You would think an episode with "Spandam" in the title and rife with recaps of flashbacks wouldn't have such a great payoff. But it did. SogePOW!!!
Skip the first half and go straight to the cool Luffy/Lucci fight. The animation was that Zoro vs. T-Bone/Movie 6 style. Dynamic action sequences abound and a wider range of expressions than usual. Really nice. Unfortunately, it's back to the regular Toei, OP fare next time. I swear, I was half-expecting to see Luffy go Super Saiyan here. Check out his hair in one of the later caps. Heh.
WOOT One Piece is getting redubbed by funimation in agust, It will still be airing on cartoonetwork's toonami aswell.
-305-
Mostly Lucci flashback but gets back to the fight at the end. The "To be continued" part was pretty cool this time. Also, good preview for next week with some transformations goin' on. I'll put up the video for that soon.
Thanks Crossbones for the screencaps
Sooo -306- had chibi Luffy, giants and finally at the very last second....well, you know. The art looks a little better for next week.....maybe.
The neverending Luffy/Lucci fight looks great here. Looks good for next week too. LOTS o' marines. A fun, action packed episode.
Here are the caps. The last shot is from next weeks episode. Looks badass but you never know how the animation will be from one minute to the next. Franky and Sanji look great in the opening shot but right after that it's back to normal. Very inconsistent again this week. I was kind of disappointed with the Marine fight too. It just didn't have any style or punch that they've had in the past. That's just my opinion.
I already know, if it's not obvious.

Uhm....This episode is simply astonishing. Even my jaw dropped and that takes some doing. It wasn't just animated beautifully but directed beautifully as well. The attention to detail in movement and expression is incredible. From the very first frame with Lucci, you know this is the real deal. The style is an interesting combination of reliable Movie 4 art and the dynamism of Movie 6. Don't read too much into that though. It's pretty subtle. The fight against the bosses had much more weight in this than the last episode. The ending might have you tearing up too. This'll make people's top 5 list, if not No.1.
Wow.
Lots o' screencaps coming...
First off, if you're interested in what music they played for the climax, here it is. Track 47 from the Movie 8 soundtrack. One of the few original pieces in that movie. Of course they could have picked something better but I think it works very well.
SPOILER CAPS feat. Zoro vs. Rusty and final Luffy. Heck, why not one more. Same ending as Movie 6. Hmm...AND Ussop saves Zoro too.
ISSHYO NI KAERU ZO~!!!!!!
ROBIIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!! *wipes tears from eyes*
Wait, that was last week. Whoah, still recovering I guess. By the way, if anyone's interested, I put together a soundtrack of episode 309. It's got all the music from beginning to end in chronological order. Here it is:
I figured last week's episode deserves it. That Movie 8 piece has grown on me a lot. I think it actually worked better than the Crocodile climax. I know I'm probably the only one with that opinion. But they did such a great job editing the piece, from the violins over the flashbacks to the cellos and woodwinds building over the Lucci and Robin flashbacks to the trumpets, trombones/french horns playing as Lucci gets pushed back into the wall. Awesome. Also, Giant Stronghold, Takeoff!! from Movie 7 near the end playing through each crew member's fight was brilliant. Keeping the same track over all of that really builds tension. So here's to the sound guys at Toei too.
Anyway, 310's out. Not last week's killer animation but still exciting. For once though, it was nice actually enjoying the tedious 5 minute recap at the beginning. But this one had a great ending. And next week has that "other" style of art similar to Movie 6 that we sometimes see. Looks really good!
