Almost a year ago, it was reported that a cartoon series based on the comic strip The Boondocks would be coming to Fox. Now, that plan has changed. The blog clixnwhistles reports that the show is headed to Cartoon Network instead.

Hmmmm... Adult Swim, perhaps? Could be... Wink

That would be kick ass. The Boondocks in one of my favorite comics and I love to see it animated, espcially on Adult Swim.

In addition, this will be a much better fit for the show politically. (Remember, while The Boondocks isn't a political cartoon per say, it does wear its stances on its sleeve.) Fox would have been too much like "sleeping with the enemy" - one need only look at The Simpsons Fox News "ticker" scandal to realize that Fox would probably neuter the show. In comparison, CN has:

  • had in their usual election year mock election as the "incumbents" Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy and the Grim Reaper from The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy. Think about it - an idiot and a malevolent fiend - that was just coincidence, right?
  • aired on Election Night a marathon of a single Harvey Birdman episode that was a parody of the clout the NRA has in American politics.
  • aired the GitS: SAC episode Jungle Cruise around the time that discussions of the use of what is termed the "El Salvador option" (terror as a counterinsurgency measure) in Iraq were flying around in the media. (For those who haven seen the episode, it deals with an American counterinsurgency program built around the concepts of the "El Salvador option" that I pray doesn't exist - and that I fear does.)

In other words, the political leanings of CN will make it a better home for this series.

No, THAT was a coincidence.

Welcome, but go easy with the necromancy, OK?

Perhaps, but the thing is that they chose to go ahead and air it even with that debate raging overhead. That was somewhat politically risky - I was surprised that nobody was denouncing them the next day.

[as] doesn't avoid political controversy; the only time they pull stuff is for things that might affect the feelings of the general populace (9/11, Columbia). Even then, it's temporary.
And I wouldn't call it a "raging" debate- I hadn't even heard of the issue until you mentioned it.

They also pulled Rejected. But that's just ironic.

By the way, I'm dubbing AngelHedgie my new favorite newbie. Just thought I should put that out there, as I don't do that too often.

I forgot about Rejected. That was cowardice by the Network higher-ups, not the WS staff.

Which is why I a) like [as], and b) think that The Boondocks will make a good fit with [as] as opposed to Fox.

Well, I'm sort of a political junkie (but I promise to keep it in check!), so I had been reading about the talk of using terror squads like those in El Salvador in Iraq, and then that episode of SAC came on...my blood just ran cold at that moment.

Well, that's more or less cowardice at the top echelons. Of course, now that Seth Green is being allowed to get away witn Bride Jesus and katana-wielding ninja rabbis (or is that rabbi ninjas?), Rejected might be more warmly welcomed.

Embarassed

I'm rather flattered. But I'm nobody special. I just tend to notice these things - wheels within wheels at CN. And I do believe good grammar is something that should be practiced and encouraged.

(And I hope that you folks are open enough to understand why I find NGE uncomfortable from an eschatalogical viewpoint - most animation fans I find aren't capable or willing to.)

She used a big word Shocked (I had to look up eschatological.)Most people either love NGE or hate it. So that isn't a big deal.

First, the proper pronoun is he.

Second, a lot of animation fans seem to be unable to grasp the simple truth that Anno played fast and loose with Christian canon, and that might unnerve people.

The discussion sort of goes like this:

NGE makes me uncomfortable because of the Christian themes in the plot.

You're so closed-minded. They call the bad guys 'Angels' and you can't handle it.

AngelHedgie wrote:
Um, no. Last time I checked, 'subversion of the will of God' was blasphemy in Christianity - and is the core element of the plot in NGE. That's what unnerves me.

Random Anime Nut wrote:

Whatever. You're the closed-minded person here.

That was an honest mistake I made.
