I got this idea from another forum (namely jpopmusic.com) so it's not an original idea but basically, to quote the person who began it:

Quote:
If the entire world was about to be desimitated, what song would you play as the last song you ever heard? What song you think would be the most appropriate for the world to end with?

Well, there are so many songs I'd want to hear before I go. I'd probably be really upset too so that would make even finding the CD's difficult. But I probably wouldn't be able to decide so I've made a whole list (I've tried to narrow it down to 10 though!) and in the order that I'd count down to the end with. Try and think of a reason for each one!

10) Delerium - innocente

I don't know why I find this song so uplifting yet sad, I know I'd want to hear it through headphones because it's that musically challenging. It's just long a beautiful. Not my favourite song, but good enough to want me to hear it at the end.

9) Every little Thing - ai no uta (love song)

I really didn't like this at first but it's very beautfil and has the sort of sound of a good bye to it. I don't know why I'd want to hear it, I just would. I'd probably cry to this one.

Cool Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling/come back around

I can't decide which one I'd want to hear but both are really great songs and I'd want to hear them before I went.

7) Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

All round, great tear-jerker for the end of the world. I would want to hear this, at least, at the moment I thnk I would.

6) Natalie Imbruglia - smoke

Very beautiful, emotional song, very dark. Unhappy. Perfect for the end of the world!

5) Morning Musume - I WISH

Wow, you really wouldn't expect this song to be on the list for the end of the world but then...neither did I. This song is so uplifting and would really make me feel like the end isn't so bad, I have to hold myself together for the people I love. It's all going great. Until the world ends.

4) Ayumi Hamasaki - Who.../RAINBOW/A Song is born

I'm not sure which one of these either, Who... really and truly made me cry when she sand it in concert it was so sad when she cried too. RAINBOW is just generally triumphant and holds the sort of sound to it that you would walk into death with because it...just...feels like that. A Song is Born is the tribute that Ayu did with KEIKO for the Sept. 11th attacks and all the proceeds went to chraity, but this song is very touching and really is humanity at it's best.

3) Coldplay - the scientist

A lovely song about love and lost direction and very beautiful endings and such I really, really, really, really like it enough to hear it as the last thing. His vocals are very beautiful.

2) Yoko Kanno - anything she composed

I have a love for all Yoko Kanno music and I have a feeling I'd play 'poor Faye ~lip cream~' or some such unknown tune from Bebop or just anyone. Mayhap a Maaya or Akino or Steve vocalist I just have no idea. There's just so many touching a haunting pieces to choose from that I lov.

1) Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Walk Through the Fire

Hmmmmmmm my last ever song on earth would be this? I really must be crazy. But the lyrics and overall tune of this song are very good to go with the end of the world (I've cut out most of the songs lyrics):

Buffy: I touch the fire and it freezes me
I look into it and it's black.
Why can't I feel?
My skin should crack and peel,
I want the fire back.

Now, through the smoke she calls to me,
To make my way across the flame,
To save the day or maybe melt away,
I guess it's all the same.

So, I will walk through the fire,
Cause where else can I turn?
I will walk through the fire,
And let it - -

And we are caught in the fire,
At the point of no return,
So we will walk through the fire,
And let it,
Burn,
Let it burn,
Let it burn,
Let it burn!

You can actually download this track and read the full lyrics here:

I really and truly think this would be the last song for me to hear at the end of the world. At least at the moment.

It kind of depends on what kind of ending. If it's the Omega Point/Judgement Day, with a happy ending because fate told me so, I'd play "Blue," from Bebop. It kind of has an optimistic ending.

If it's just going to be death and destruction, but quietly, it would have to be "Rain" (Mei Yamane, not Steve Conte). It just fits a bad day.

If the world is going to end in a fiery inferno, with lots of screaming and general pain, I'd go for "This Isn't What We Meant." Particularly poignant if we brought it upon ourselves.
. . . Mmm, Second Impact . . .

aerosmith's "livin' on the edge" was the first thing that popped in my head, though i guess that would contradict the whole 'dying' thing...still, how the song fades out just seems to work for me...

i'm sure i'd have to consider a few others though, i'm just too lazy to do so right now...
