Tell me why I shouldn't buy that for my 2003 Civic EX.
It will both power my iPod, and grab the pristine Line Out signal...all from its dock connection.
The only downside I see to it is that I'm locking myself into iPods with the 30-pin Dock Connector. Is that a problem?
The dock connector is used in three quadrillion accessories.
In fact, the iPod will continue to beat the shit out of other MP3 players because (among other things) there are so many accessories made for it. PC users have the "more software" argument, iPod users have the "more accessories" argument.
There's also a $50 RCA audio unit ($20 cheaper), but it doesn't charge the iPod (I don't have a car charger), doesn't have a RCA -> Mini cable, and may or may not deal with the iPods amplified headphone jack correctly...but it'll work (with help) with any analog audio device.
Decisions, decisions... _________________ My old sig was too long. |

But most of those "accessories" are already default on alot of other MP3 players. Not only does creative already put FM tuners on most of their MP3 Players, some even come with a preinstalled virus. Beat that. |

Can't say I can.
Every time I go to my Apple Store, the iPod cases take over another shelving unit. It's disgusting.

I cant think of many accessories for the Ipod that I cant get my Nomad. And the fact that my Nomad was more the $100 cheaper for the 30GB then a 20GB IPod. Or how all my addons are cheaper as well.
I wanted to swap stereos in my car out to get the linein jack. Some of the newer decks have them. It can get really annoying living in the Northeast US where there arent any open frequencies to use as well.
But now I drive a daddy taxi with a DVD attached to it. So no hopes of swapping out the head unit now.
Where was i going with this reply? Oh yeah Apple wants your money. And wants you to think its worth all that extra money to have a propetiary interface. Im sure you will enjoy your Ipods while drinking your Starbucks. But for the rest of us theres I-River and Creative taking care of our portable MP3 needs. |

Having worked for Creative's Techsupport I can tell you this much: I don't trust their hard drive based players. Either they aren't made very well or people really are stupid and can't take care of them (i'm leaning towards stupid). However, I loved the flash memory players. FM tuners, built in mics, and A FUCKING DISPLAY! |

I have the awesomest, most excessive iPod accessory every made. For a mere ten dollars, I recieved two accessories that you simply plug into the top of the iPod, and they work. What are they?
A Flashlight and a Laser Pointer.
Yep, I have a $310 laser pointer/flashlight.
THAT, my friends, is why iPods are so kinky. _________________ anime is teh s uck

Man CP I feel so lame now. My Nomad can't do that
As for the harddrives. Do you mean the early 4-6GB ones or the newer ones? |

...actually, I don't have a single Apple accessory (other than the Firewire cable that came with the iPod) that uses the Dock connector...all third party stuff.
That isn't an Apple-made or authorized product, and people can even buy Dock connectors from the original non-Apple manufacturer.
Seeing that my current iPod and probably any future MP3 players I get will be free from Apple, a Dock Connector audio thing wouldn't be a terrible thing for me.
Has anybody installed a line-in type device to their stock stereo? _________________ My old sig was too long. |

My rant wasnt aimed at you. It was aimed at all the joiners i see at Best Buy buying Ipod's. People who think its cool to have an I-Pod and don't even look at what else is for sale. People who spend $10 for a coffee because it comes from a place with a green sign.
My old MP3-CD Player (circa 2000) still works. It sounds like crap but it still works. And I think that my I-River 512MB will last that long. But I have my doubts about how long my Nomad 30GB will.
I have an FM transmitter i use on all 3 of the MP3 players. But i dont use it that much because the quality is so bad. What i think we need is a way to boost the FM transmitter power. So it can overpower the low level FM stations |

There's no reason why you shouldn't. It looks basically "Plug & Play". _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis
