Post subject: 05/16/05 - Anything that can go wrong...

So.
This weekend was Anime Central.
I took Friday off from my job to go.
I skipped out a little bit early on Thursday to pick up Amanda so we could register and get our Pillows tickets early. I left school at 2:55 (fyi, think 1:55 for reference on the link below), right before the dismissal bell so I would beat the traffic.
I get to work about 15 minutes late on Monday all groggy from staying up 'til midnight watching Clone Wars with Amanda.
I get to my office (adjacent to a big computer lab)...and I see every computer offline and not connected to the network.
...and 8 messages on my answering machine.
Shit.
After running around for a bit, checking logfiles and ifconfig on my laptop, and piecing together the story from the disjointed rambles of my assistant, I was pretty sure that either the login/DHCP server's ethernet interface went down, or both AppleTalk and dhcpd decided to die at the same time.
Friday was a teacher in-service day (no students), so it wasn't TOO bad, but there were a bunch of pissed off teachers, and 200 pissed off teachers are worse than 2,000 pissed off students.
After everything's back in working order (thank God), I sat down at my desk, and pushed the Play Messages button on my answering machine.
Time it took the entire school to be destroyed after I left: 10 minutes.
I love Mondays.
Especially after Friday the 13th on a three day weekend. _________________ My old sig was too long. |

You owe us a con report. Especially since you took your girlfriend, which is generally considered a bad move. _________________ Ice cream has this erotic sense to it- kinda like the one choclate and strawberries have.

I believe one is in the works, IIRC.

Nobu was there, albeit too briefly. *sigh*
Got there Friday afternoon, spent 5 minutes in the pre-reg line, and wandered around, stopping at the AMV room (Random Destination panel and DDR Project) and "The Gundam Experience" (watching 5 gunotas all trying to talk over each other) until the Pillows concert, which rocked BTW. They had everything necessary for terrific Rock & RollTM, which includes excellent drumwork (he makes it look effortless), a solid bass line and lots of guitar. They went non-stop for an hour and gave their all for our enjoyment. Watched a couple of episodes of Tylor in one of the video rooms, then went to sleep.
Woke up Saturday horribly sick and ended up missing everything I was interested in.
Sunday I was too depressed to even try.
Then there was the incident involving a poorly marked detour where I found myself on a self-guided tour of the western Chicago suburbs, and somehow ended up in Joliet.
I've had and hope to have (in the future) better ACens. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

I would go, but I have no way of getting there. Also, you may call me a newbie, but I have been reading all of your posts for a long, LONG time. Since before you were BORN! Okay, not that long, but I've been here a long time. I've just recently got off of my lazy butt long enough to actually register on here. |

I'm not a newbie. Not in the regular sense of the word. I may be newly joined, but I am in no way new to these boards. I am always watching. |

So what we need is a lurker title for minutes on the forum with few posts. |

Easy tiger, newbie is not an insult. n00b is an insult. Newbie just means you're new to me. The post I made directly prior to this one was not sarcastic either, even though I think it came off that way. We rarely get newbies that act the way we wish they did. _________________ anime is teh s uck

Though as he pointed out, he's been a lurker for quite some time. I'm not sure you can really call that a newbie, simply because he knows all of us. The fact that we don't know him is kinda disconcerting though. Lurkers remind me of stalkers. And don't get my started on defilers. _________________ This space left intentionally blank.
