Be prepared for yet another new DVD line from Disney; this time with Walt Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites! Mimicking the Spotlight Collection series that Warner Bros. has utilized with the Looney Tunes, among others, these four single-disc DVD volumes will each contain an hour of classic Disney shorts - making the cartoons more widely available to those that do not want to spend $35 on the relatively delicate Walt Disney Treasures tins. Carrying a retail tag of $14.99, these first four volumes will feature Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Chip 'n Dale, respectively. At approximately an hour's length, the discs will feature from 7 to 9 shorts each. Ultimate Disney has all of the short titles - and the full press release!
AWN notes that the hour long Popeye’s Voyage: The Quest for Pappy DVD released today will air on FOX on December 17, in a slimmed down 30 minute version.

Disney Officially Announces Second Round of Miyazaki DVDs

Walt Disney has announced that on February 22nd it will release 3 2-disc DVD releases of Miyazaki movies Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso and The Cat Returns.
Previously Disney had indicated that My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Porco Rosso would have been released on August 31st, 2004. These releases were then delayed until February 22nd, and then removed from Disney's retail release schedule. Currently there is no known release date for My Neighbor Totoro. Totoro was released on DVD by Fox and Troma in December 2002.
Each Title will be released on February 22nd, in a 2-disc set, for $29.99 and will feature newly produced English language dubs, as well as the original Japanese audio and other bonus material.
Also of note, the press release contains the first listing of the English dub cast for The Cat Returns, featuring:

Right Stuf's finally updating after the long Thanksgiving weekend, and judging from what I'm seeing on the RSS feed, ADV's dumping a lot of things into the retail channel in February. I'll have to compile that list later, or let Anime on DVD figure out what's new, what's repriced and what's re-issued.

Sony has announced the release of 2 DVD sets in 2005- The Mr. Magoo Show Complete Collection and Roger Ramjet: Hero Of Our Nation (Deluxe Edition). Magoo should be a 4 disc set, sporting 128 episodes at 5 minutes each (full run time of 640 min.) while Ramjet ran for a total of 156, 6 minute episodes (run time of 936 min.). The number of discs in the Ramjet set is unclear, but fitting all 156 episodes on a 3 disc set would be a bit of a stretch. The possibility also exists that this would be a re-issue of a previously existing Roger Ramjet set, with added material. Right now it appears that both sets will be out on Feb. 8th, 2005.
Finally, DVD release date set for 5th season of "South Park"
After two previous delays, Paramount has finally confirmed that they will be releasing South Park: The Complete 5th Season on March 1st, 2005. The previous releases of October and November 9th both passed without as much as a word, leaving the new date a mystery until now.
