Post subject: TDA Radio--why not?
You know, I was sitting at home a couple nights ago, pestering Zechs during his DJ broadcast when I thought, "man, I sure hate the standard fare music of this site. Wouldn't it be cool to see an online radio station that covers the musical interests that most of us like?"
And I wondered just how much work goes into making an online radio station. With the number of active TIL members lately, I'd think we would have enough to keep one going man-power wise. I'm just not sure what kind of bandwidth they use... _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

the way most work, is a person streams their own music to a server, and that server streams it to all the listeners, at various bandwidths.
Usually 96 or 128 Kbps which is 12-16 KBps, per listener, is there are no listeners no bandwidth is used. if you figure 50 listeners thats a little under a MB per second, 48 MB per minute, usually 50 is a high number though but a more useful number is ~1 MB per minute per listener.
Setting up a shoutcast server like the one you listened to Zechs on is rather simple. _________________ The problem with America is stupidity. In Tyler's defense, he has been busy. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

Dill's got a point. Despite the fact that a monkey could do it, ever since Spook left, we don't have a monkey. _________________ anime is teh s uck

You shall be the monkey running this radio. Now, I hope you have some money for a server. |

Yeah--one would be hard-pressed to find a big-ass server with bandwidth to spare around here... _________________ This space left intentionally blank.
