Mel Brooks will make a sequel to his classic 1987 STAR WARS spoof, SPACEBALLS.

"I'm writing myself back into the SPACEBALLS sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face," Brooks said. "Why another SPACEBALLS? It wouldn't feel right to have anyone else play Yoghurt, and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since BLAZING SADDLES."

Brooks hopes his movie will be released around the time when George Lucas' STAR WARS: EPISODE III hits multiplexes in May 2005.

Here's a little blurb about the upcoming Fat Albert Movie

Marvel at the mind-numbing unfunniness of the latest cartoon-turned-live bomb FAT ALBERT. The most telling example of what passes for humor in this film is when a character asks Dumb Donald why he wears a knit-cap over his head, and the character proceeds to offer an explanation. How about this for an explanation: IT'S A FUCKING CARTOON! Give it a break, Hollywood. Stop turning cartoons into shitty live-action movies and then creating logical reasons for why the cartoon characters don't look right in live-action. Audiences stopped laughing at this type of lameness sometime in the mid-'90s when John Goodman humiliated himself as Fred Flintstone. Dumb Donald wears a damn knit cap over his head because he's a cartoon character, and I'm not forking over ten bucks to have some ex-SIMPSONS writer tell me otherwise. I can't wait for the live-action ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS where some two-bit screenwriter is bound to make a crack about whether Alvin wears pants under his long shirt. Perhaps FAT ALBERT's only saving grace will be its animated segments (under the able supervision of Bert Klein) which I hear are looking quite good. Too bad the animation crew couldn't work on a project deserving of their time, effort and talent.

With only one episode left to air, NBC has decided to pull the plug on the third season of LAST COMIC STANDING.

On their site yesterday, NBC announced that they would announce the finale results between two reruns of FATHER OF THE PRIDE. However, that announcement was later removed and NBC says that the results will be announced sometime next Tuesday.

One of the comics, unknown at this time, was told he wouldn't be needed for the taping. The production crew is also in the dark about exactly how the results will be announced.

"NBC was not happy with the rating of the show and decided to pull the plug," Mohr wrote on Jaymohr.com. "Keep in mind there is only one episode left and on that episode we were going to announce the winner! Amazing. Why would a network cancel a show with only one episode left?

"We argued that having a separate version of LAST COMIC so soon after season two concluded would burn the audience out and damage the franchise."

Although LCS has performed well for The Peacock in the last two summers, it's only averaged 5.5 million viewers in this, its first Fall run.

Mohr took a parting shot on his website, saying, "I have to stop typing now. I have to go TiVo FATHER OF THE PRIDE."

Filmmaker Michael Moore may get his wish to get his anti-Bush pic, FAHRENHEIT 9/11, shown on TV in time for the November election -- just in time.

The film, which criticizes Bush for the war in Iraq, may be shown on pay-per-view Nov. 1, the night before the presidential election.

DVD distributors are said not to be pleased with the move, however, fearful the free showing will hurt their sales.

In Demand, the largest pay-per-view distributor in the U.S., reportedly will transmit the special between 8 and 11 p.m. EST (5 and 8 p.m. PST) and charge a fee of $9.95.

Moore's reps deny a deal is currently in place, however.

Jan De Bont will helm a movie adaptation of author Steve Alten's prehistoric-shark novel MEG.

Guillermo del Toro, Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin—who last collaborated on HELLBOY—will produce along with Nick Nunziata of CHUD.com and Ken Atchity.

The story is a man's hunt for a massive ancestor to the great white shark that could resurface and wreak havoc in the ocean.

Matthew Perry has signed on to direct and star in an episode of NBC's SCRUBS that will air during November sweeps.

This will be Perry's first directing gig. In the ep, he'll play a man that is willing to donate a kidney to his sick father, until complications arise. The father will be played by Matthew's father, John Perry.

"I wrote on the first season of FRIENDS and my wife and I got to know him better in the years after that," creator Bill Lawrence said. "So to sucker him back onto a sitcom by letting him direct is like the coolest thing."

Lawrence also joked that having his father on hand will help Perry: "He'll have at least one actor on the show who won't give him shit."

Dana Delany, Brian Kerwin, and Jane Seymour have all landed guest roles.

Seymour will guest star in a five episode arc of SMALLVILLE. She will play Genevieve Teague, mothe to Jason Teague. Genevieve is a rich and powerful socialite from Metropolis who may know the truth behind Lana's magically endowed tatoo.

Delany and Kerwin are set for ABC's BOSTON LEGAL. Delany will guest in at least one episode as Samantha Fleming, wife to mayoral candidate Jack Fleming (Kerwin). Jack decides to seek the legal counsel of Alan Shore when his campaign is threatened at the last minute by scandal.

Sam Raimi, director of the SPIDER MAN films, said he hasn't yet settled on a villain for the third installment in the franchise.

"We're starting by determining what Peter Parker's journey is as a human being," Raimi said. "What deficits does he have? Where was he at the end of the last film, and what is it that he still has to learn? How will this relationship with the woman he loves evolve from this point forward, and what will be their new obstacles? Will it come from outside sources, or will it be something from within that destroys their love? "These are the questions we're asking. And when we've got them figured out, when we know what they want and where they're headed and what it is they have to learn, ... we'll try and find the villain that best represents those conflicts," Raimi added.

Cable network A&E Network has formed A&E IndieFilms, designed to help finance and produce documentaries similar to the nonfiction programming the cabler is known for.

A&E IndieFilms will feature four documentaries per year in primetime, with some projects set for theatrical release. Projects to include IN HARM'S WAY, about women journalists working in war zones.

"We're going after well-crafted documentaries that really tell personal, factual stories," A&E President Abbe Raven said.

Producers Hank Capshaw and C. Russell Muth (AMERICAN CHOPPER) have signed a deal with FX Network to develop the new reality series OR BEST OFFER.

Like AMERICAN CHOPPER, OBO will focus on a father-son team, excpe that OBO is about used car salesmen. In this case, the father owns the dealership and his son works for him.

"It's a look into the world of used cars salesmen who are in search of the American dream in depressed post-industrial town only to find that the American dream is rusty and broken down," FX vp current programming and alternative series Eric Schrier said.

At the Mipcom convention in Cannes, Lucasfilm employees appeared in the convention magazine, saying that TV will be George Lucas' next arena.

Lucasfilm was at the convention to meet with licensees to talk about the May release of STAR WARS: EPISODE III - REVENGE OF THE SITH. They were very secretive during the meetings apparently, staying away from the press most of the time.

What does this mean for STAR WARS? Well, we've already seen the Cartoon Network CLONE WARS series, but this could be a signal that the long-rumored STAR WARS television series may well be on its way.

DreamWorks’ SHARK TALE withstood Universal’s football pic, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS in its second outing at the box office for the weekend ended Oct. 10, 2004. The 3D-animated gangster satire dipped 34% but still managed a hefty $31.3M for a total gross of $87.3M, while second place finisher, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, caught $20.2M worth of tickets. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Ent. made company history by crossing the $1B threshold in both North America and overseas for the third year in a row. This puts it in the company of Disney and Warner Bros. for such a feat.

Coming in third was Buena Vista’s LADDER 49, which captured $13.1M in its second week for a $41M cume. Fox’s TAXI (with vfx by Pixel Magic) debuted in fourth with $12M. Sony/Revolution’s THE FORGOTTEN (with vfx by The Orphanage and SPI) slipped to fifth with $7.6M and $48.7M in three weeks. New Line’s RAISE YOUR VOICE romantic comedy with Hilary Duff debuted in sixth place with $4M. Paramount’s groundbreaking CGI adventure, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, took the seventh spot with $2.3M and a disappointing total of $33.9M, despite the fine work of such vfx companies as ILM, Luma Pictures, Rising Sun Pictures, Hybride Technologies, Ring of Fire, SW Digital, Pixel Liberation Front, Pacific Title Digital, Café FX, Engine Room, The Orphanage, R!OT and Digital Backlot.

Settling for eighth was Focus’ SHAUN OF THE DEAD spoof (with vfx from Double Negative), which scared up $1.7M and $9.4M to date. Focus’ THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES shot up to number nine with $1.5M and a cume of $3.2M. Screen Gems’ RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE (with vfx by C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, Mr. X Inc., Animated Extras International Ltd., Fantasy II Film Effects and Soho VFX) occupied the 10th spot with $1.2M and $49M to date.

Go Fish’s GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE added another $53,074 for a total so far of $788,490. Box office information obtained from boxofficemojo.com.

Hours after Bill O'Reilly accused her of a multimillion dollar shakedown attempt, a female Fox News producer fired back at the TV star today, filing a lawsuit claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment and spoke often, and explicitly, to her about phone sex, vibrators, threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and sexual fantasies. Below [this article] you'll find a copy of Andrea Mackris's complaint, an incredible page-turner that quotes O'Reilly, 55, on all sorts of lewd matters. Based on the extensive quotations cited in the complaint, it appears a safe bet that Mackris, 33, recorded some of O'Reilly's more steamy soliloquies. For example, we (The Smoking Gun) direct you to his Caribbean shower fantasies. While we suggest reading the entire document, TSG will point you to interesting sections on a Thailand sex show, Al Franken, and the climax of one August 2004 phone conversation.

Superman has been cast!

Latino Review claims that unknown actor Brandon Routh has been cast in the title role of Warner Bros.' Superman, to be directed by Bryan Singer:

The man who Singer has picked to play Clark Kent/Superman is none other than a relatively unknown actor by the name of Brandon Routh (Seen here in the photo to the right dressed in his own Superman outfit on Halloween last year).

Brandon's name has appeared on the web as being a possible contender a few month's ago, but most recently appeared on this Iowa based TV website.

For more on the report, hit the link above. You can check out his stats here and more pictures on Routh's official website.

UPDATE!! - We checked with our own independent sources at WB and they confirmed that Brandon Routh is indeed cast as Superman. Our sources added that they don't know when Lois Lane will be cast. They also threw in tidbits that Superman writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris were recently spotted on the WB lot going through stacks and stacks of Superman comic books, so it appears that they are going back to the source material for inspiration. Our sources also confirmed that General Zod will be involved in some capacity. More to come!
