Ok, I just got a new iMac with all the latest features. I just plugged the thing in and now it's asking what my Internet connection should be.

For those of you who own an iMac, which is better: Using the account I have right now or creating a new one? If I ask for it to use the one I have right now, it'll be connected with the speed of a cable modem. If I ask to make a new one, it'll involve plugging in a phone modem. Since iMacs have really improved over the years, making even Bill Gates fall flat on his ass (best quality, best picture, best sound, etc.), I don't know how a phone modem would work on an iMac. Let's face it: Windows + Phone modem = Crap, but what does iMac + Phone modem = ? I'm not sure.

Please give me some advice!

...What the hell is your problem, exactly?

The whole setup thing is pointless. Just write in what you have now. You can go back and change it whenever. Modem speeds are the same on all computers, the notion of anything otherwise is idiocy.

Besides, did you really think setting up an iMac is hard? Have you seen the damn instruction manual? IT'S ABOUT 6 STEPS LONG. OMFG. Well, on the old iMac anyway.

In short, don't panic you former-PC slave, and just enter what you think you have. If you have any issues, you should still be under a customer care warantee by Apple or CompUSA or where-ever.

Just be glad I told you this before Tyler...he worked at an Apple store. He'ld rip in you shreds before you could plug in an iPod.

I only tear apart the idiots with no hope.

"I want a computer with at least a gigawatt."
"How much better is this speaker from that speaker?" / "About 27.3%" / "Really? Wow."

...and for the record, a dialup modem is crap no matter how superawesomemegacool the computer is.
You could hook up a phone line to a Cray supercomputer and IGN would still take half a day to load a page.

hehehehe, nice one shin

All specialty stores get those same types of questions. Some guy at my school described him computer like this:

Dumb Student: I have a box like this *holds his hands out to the left and right* not like this *holds hands up and down*

Student working in the bookstore: Oh, you have a desktop.

Dumb Student: Is that what they are called?

another interaction with the same student went something like this:

DS: Do you have any floppy discs?

SWITBS: No, they are on order, why don't you use a cdr?

DS: what's a cdr?

SWITBS: It's a writable cd, what do you need floppies for?

DS: *confused, scared look* umm... no that's ok. I'll wait for the floppies. I'm trying to save pictures I scanned onto the disk but it only holds two.

SWITBS: What the dpi you scanned them in at?

DS: Don't know

SWITBS: Lets take a look *looks* Holy shit! 500 dpi? No frickin wonder you can't save. Forget the floppies and go with a cdr.

DS: Can a cdr hold more than a floppy?

SWITBS: something like 600x as much as a floppy. You want one?

DS: no, I think I'll wait for the floppies.

Customer: "...does the iMac come with solitaire?"
Me: "Well, no. But there are many free Solitaire games you can play online or download for free from the Internet!"
Customer: "...oh. Thanks anyway..." [walks out]
