Is there any way to cut a video into 2 parts (other then using Adobe premiere and spending a bunch of hours for it to load). Its just that I have an 86 minute video on my comp, but cds that I have only take 80 minutes. Please help.

By the way, I need it to remain as a video, because I want to be able to turn it on my dvd player (by saving it into vcd or svcd). I already know that I can put it in with a folder.

If it's a video, then a CD minute length has no bearing on it. If a CD says 86 minutes, then that's for music in non-mp3 format. If you cut down the quality of the video, you could fit hours upon hours on one CD.

Aside from that, if you're still deadset on cutting it in half, try Windows Movie Maker. It's on every PC nowadays, and if all you're trying to do is a simple cut, it's really simple.

Well, windows media player only saves in WMV format, and the software that I have for cd buring, does not accept WMV files. This video is mpeg format. For some reason, the time does affect the video. It doesn't count it as memory (it is much smaller then the cd limit). It counts it as time, just like with music. And I am using Nero StartSmart which came with my burner.

Thanks anyway.

Are you trying to make a VCD (a movie on CD playable by some DVD players)? Or do you just want to burn the movie file to CD?

Okay, I found a command line tool that is for both Linux and Windows. It's called mpgtx. I haven't tested it yet, but it might work. The Windows version is hidden in a newspost, but it is here.

Edit: Okay, I was able to test it on a Windows machine. It seemed to work. I tested it on a small 1 minute MPEG file I had.

My command line:
   mpgtx.exe -s vidopen.mpg [-0:20] [0:20-0:40] [0:40-] -b test
This splits the file vidopen.mpg into three parts. Each part was 20 seconds long. It generated test-1.mpg, test-2.mpg, and test-3.mpg.

I figure you can adjust those times to split the video a convenient spot.
   mpgtx.exe -s file.mpg [-56:00] [56:00-] -b newname
Would split the file at the 56 minute mark, I think.

for mpeg and avi files, virtual dub is as easy as it gets, and it's free. Just use the direct stream copy option for video processing settings.

Sorry, no. VCD is a subset of MPEG-1, just as DVD-Video is a subset of MPEG-2. However, many players on the market can play WMV natively - look for one that has Windows Media compatability. (There are even DivX compatable DVD players - I just bought one not too long ago.)

if your really want to, you can use the MPEG-1 converter from TMPGEnc for free.
