Post subject: Some S-Video help?
|
|
|
|
Here's my setup and problem.
My dvd player's video (audio too, but that's not the problem) is connected to my reciever through s-video. The reciever is connected to my tv through s-video. When I turn everything on and put it all on the right channel no video. None. I tried it with a diferent s-video cable, no dice.
So I then tried skipping the reciever and going directly to the tv. Still no video. Oh, video works through rca, but I don't want to use rca. One of my s-v cables is brand spanking new. Anywho, I decide maybe it might be the connecter on my tv or dvd player. So I go into the other room that has a dvd player and hook that up with the new s-video cable and nothing.
My only guess is that I'm doing something wrong. I have no idea what that something is. Do you? _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

I'm no techno genious, but I have a few things
1. You sure your s-video is working? This is only if you can take the thing apart without damaging it. If so check both TV and DVD.
2. Read the goddamn manual.
3. If all else fails, call in the professionals. _________________ *Floats by on a cloud* |

well, one cable is new (2 days), my reciever is about 6 months old, my dvd player a year and a halfish, my tv about 2-3 years. The other tv I tried is about 2-3 months old and the other dvd player 6months to a year. None if it has had a problem. Though I've never had the chance to hook anything up through s-v.
Considering that the same problem occurs on a television and dvd that is much newer than my two I don't think it's the problem of the ports not working.
I was hoping to avoid calling RCA/GE seeing as it would mean most likely it wouldnt work until either 1) tomarrow or 2) some time in the distant future where I could afford to buy whatever it is I would need to buy to fix it.
Thanks though. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Is there a setting on the DVD player to switch from RCA to S-Video? |

not that I'm aware of, I believe it's just "plug-n-play". _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

And your sure that it's connected through a channel, and not a TV-Video input? _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

Like Bono, I'm wondering if maybe you need to set your TV input to receive through the S-Video port. _________________ "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."- C.S. Lewis

if its not connected with co-ax then it's through inputs. Besides I've tried both. _________________ "Veni. Vedi. Spooki." - Julius Caesar

Hmm... my only suggestion is to try hooking up the DVD player up to something else via S-V, and if that works, try the TV with something else using S-Vid. At least then you've found where the problem is.
An Nobu--you're sig. I've seen it before, where's it from again? _________________ This space left intentionally blank.

The only things i can think of are
1. Faulty Cable
2. Make sure the the DVD players are set to the proper output
3. Make sure that your television is set to the proper input.
Other that trying those things i dont know what you should do _________________ Look i changed my sig!

Do you have a multimeter? If so, you can see if anything is being sent through the pins on the S-V cable. Also, does the cable have both RCA and S video? If so, I'd say the splitter is not working. _________________ Krogoth uses Berserk.

From the title of this thread I thought you were talking about S-Video the member of this forum.
Anyway, the first thing is to find out if the fault is with the DVD player or your TV. Try plugging something else with S-Video output into your TV (like a satellite receiver or XBOX.) Also, try plugging your DVD player into something else with S-Video input (like a friend's TV.)
On some TVs with both RCA and S-Video input, one overrides the other. Usually the S-Video overrides the RCA, but you never know. So don't plug the S-Video cable from your DVD player and a RCA video cable from a game console into your TV at the same time. (I know you're smart enough not to do that, but sometimes the best of us make stupid mistakes.) _________________ "Robots don't say 'ye'."
