you? Did Santa Clause traumatize you or something? Did a Christmas tree fall on your head? The only thing that bothers me is the commercialization. But how can you not enjoy Christmas?

I'd kind of have to agree with FAK on this one--it was a completely ripped off holiday from the pagans, and it's completely against the thesis of how Christ wanted us to live our lives. Sure, we like the presents, but it doesn't make it not a sham.

Bah, It's still the bestest time of the year.

As proof of how Christmas is run by businesses: Back in the 50s or 60s, several industries successfully lobbied to have the date of Thanksgiving moved a week earlier. This would make one more "shopping" week before Christmas.

Fortunately, the people boycotted this one, and the date was reverted, but it was too close.

As for the rest of Christmas, it has nothing to do with Christ really. All it represents is giving presents to people. I frankly don't need to do this to recognize someone's worth. It's all just a big hassle, with no important benefit.

I agree with FAK. All it is is a commercialization of something that used to have some meaning to people. Now, I want this and that and those... It gets on my nerves.

Work for it. You've been taught that things must be paid for. After all society revolves around currency.

I don't like Christmas for the presents. I like Christmas because . . . . HELLO! It's CHRISTMAS. The years when I believed in Santa Clause were so simple and nice . . .

Christmas was a Pagan holiday that got a Christian label stuck on it when the Brits got pissed off about not being able to celebrate a lot of there stuff anymore. It made the transition easier.

Now where did the pagans begin their holiday? I'm going all the way back to the origin.

Heh, when I found out Santa wasn't a real person, I refused to talk, or even go NEAR my mother for a week. XD I like Christmas because...well....I don't see how you can't. SURE it's commercialism and stuff, but, come on....don't tell me some of you don't enjoy getting presents.

I have no idea.

And HLB--I'd like to think that I was a good enough kid to warrent presents outside of the obligatory. But that's just my craziness. Te only thing better that the surprise of what your gift is is when you didn't eve know you were going to get a gift.

Wrongo, Bono! Tifa is right. It's the anticipation that's the best. Knowing it's coming and not being able to sleep and looking at the pretty lights . . . Everything was so SIMPLE when you believed in Santa, and the whole month of December was just mind-numbing. You couldn't wait for the 25th to come, then once it did, you didn't want it to go. It's just jam-packed with awesome memories.

Maybe you missed some of the fanfare since you don't ever get snow down in Las Vega, but I love this month.

I believe that Christmas was scheduled around the Winter Solstice celebrations. I don't know why it's the 25th, instead of the 21st. Maybe the difference between the various calendars used by the church.

BTW, I can't recall ever believing in Santa Claus. I'm sure I did at some point, but not very long. It became kind of moot when my parents said that there was a $100 limit on the totality of my Christmas gifts. For some strange reason, though, they still label random presents as from "Santa." Parents. Rolling Eyes
